Criminal Code  These are Christian organizations like World Vision or Foodgrains Bank and Muslim organizations like Islamic Relief. For many people, though certainly not for all, a commitment to a sense of the image of God being in all of us is what leads to a passion for development assistance. I want to recognize the role of people who come from a broad range of philosophical backgrounds who are involved in international development and the important work they are doing.

Criminal Code  Sadly, they are a reality for millions of Afghans living under the Taliban regime. Groups like Islamic Relief, World Vision, Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan, Red Cross, CARE Canada and so many others are ready to provide aid to some of the world’s most vulnerable, but they need us to act.

Committees of the House  His caucus members met with an alt-right MP, Christine Anderson, from a foreign government. She came to this country spouting anti-Islamic rhetoric, denying the Holocaust and glorifying Nazis. If the member actually does not support even one Canadian being influenced by foreign interference, will he and his party ask that those three members be removed from their caucus?

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  In fact, perhaps the first to stand up to the Islamic Regime were Iran's women who, in massive International Women's Day marches in 1979, opposed the erosion of their rights. Those protests and many other acts of courageous defiance by women were met with violence.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  This is a commitment to women's rights and a rejection of the patriarchy of the Islamic Republic; to life, and a celebration of life, and a rejection of the cult of death and executions and the degradation of life by the Islamic Republic; and to freedom, which I think speaks for itself.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  With the caveat that I've only seen very preliminary news reports and haven't had time to digest it very much yet, my instinct is that this is actually bad news for human rights in Iran for a variety of reasons, but primarily because it gives a further lifeline to the Islamic regime in Tehran. It removes a particular sort of threat. This regional rivalry with Saudi Arabia was a particular threat to the Islamic regime, so the Iranian regime will likely be empowered as a result of it.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  To put this in real terms, the punishment for women’s acts that are deemed offensive to public decency includes 10 days to two months of imprisonment or 74 lashes under article 638 of the Islamic Penal Code. Canada must condemn these laws and regulations that deny women access to public institutions, and here I mean hospitals, schools, government offices and airports, if they do not cover their hair, as well as the ongoing surveillance and harassment to implement the forced veiling laws.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  You don't get 50,000 Canadians coming out for very many things, but we had 50,000 people coming out to say that they reject the Islamic Republic. Similarly, the poll that you cited is a good poll. It points to the fact that Iranian people inside the country in very large numbers—I forget the exact number, but it's something around 80% or so, I think—want this regime gone.

Procedure and House Affairs committee  As a member of Parliament who represents a predominantly Jewish community, I find abhorrent and offensive, as do members of the Muslim community, her anti-Islam views, her Holocaust denial views and her lack of responsibility in understanding the facts of history. We've seen the power of this in other forms. It was the Russian foreign minister who, in his disgusting justifications of the illegal war against Ukraine, claimed there were Nazis in Ukraine whom Russia was trying to foil, or that, alternatively, Russian soldiers will be enduring a Holocaust in fighting the war.

Petitions  Madam Speaker, I rise today to present a petition on behalf of 5,381 signatories, who call to the attention of the government the atrocities that are happening in Iran. Specifically, they are calling on the government to declare the entire Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist entity. They are asking for the government to designate authorities to investigate reported threats and stalking by the IRGC against Iranian Canadians and their third party agents.

Foreign Affairs  I would like to emphasize the robust measures that Canada has in place against Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. These measures were undertaken in response to recent incidents, as well as Iran's long-term systemic human rights violations and ongoing behaviour that destabilizes regional security.

Arab Heritage Month Act  I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge some individuals, Arabic organizations and Arabic religious groups in my riding that have contributed largely to our local community: the Canadian Arab Society of London, the Lebanese Canadian Cultural Club of London, the Canadian Cedars of Hope, the Canadian Iraqi House, the Western Arab Students' Association, the London Council of Arab Women, the Muslim Resource Centre, MAC, the Islamic Centre of Southwest Ontario, the London Muslim Mosque, the Hyatt Mosque and the Al-Mahdi Islamic Community Centre. They all hold fundraisers, host information sessions and run community organizations, food banks and soup kitchens, just to name a few.

Petitions  A number of us have received petitions from constituents and concerned Canadians about the appalling situation for the citizens of Iran. The Islamic Republic of Iran, the petitioners note, has demonstrated a history of violence against its own citizens, including the killing of 1,500 protesters in November 2019, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is at the epicentre of the Iranian regime.
