Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the answer is approximately 133 first nations. That is the number taking the government to court because the carbon tax violates their constitutional rights. Now first nations are fighting the Prime Minister in court again. They are forced to spend their limited resources hiring lawyers, not because they want to but because they know their people will not be able to heat their homes in their cold, and often remote, communities.

Agriculture committee  If that carbon tax were not in the system, would that not lower costs to consumers?

Agriculture committee  No, we don't. Part of the reason for that is that we don't pay the carbon tax, based on where we are in the value chain in terms of any impact on food. I can't speak with any real knowledge about that subject, although I've no doubt that anything that increases the cost or puts cost pressures on the system is something we should be looking at.

Agriculture committee  The carbon tax is charged throughout the entire system right now, other than on the fuel used directly on the farm. Who eats that on the way up if we're supposed to not pass that along to consumers?

Agriculture committee  I mean, this government has front-of-package labelling, which my colleague has raised, of $6 billion to $8 billion. There's the carbon tax. There's a whole host of costs that the Canadian system is putting in. Did you not raise any of those with the government?

Carbon Pricing  Canadian farms lead the world in environmental best practices, but the Liberals choose only to punish them with higher costs, red tape and a quadrupling of the carbon tax. A chicken farmer near Redwater, Alberta, is already paying nearly two grand a month in the carbon tax. Come the middle of winter, that cost will double. Those costs are passed on to Canadians who are already struggling to put food on the table.

Carbon Pricing  Now Ontario's first nation leaders are asking the federal court to exempt their communities from the federal carbon tax. Canada is unified, and one thing is clear: The Prime Minister is not worth the cost. Will the Prime Minister finally cut the carbon tax for farmers, families and first nations?

Carbon Pricing  It is costly to vote for the Bloc. The Bloc Québécois wants to drastically increase the carbon tax that raises the price of everything. Will the Prime Minister finally scrap his plan to drastically increase the carbon tax on farmers and families?

Human Resources committee  For those who haven't been following this, the motion is as follows: That, given that: (a) the carbon tax threatens the income security of farmers, farm workers, and employment in the agricultural sector; (b) the Senate is expected to vote on Bill C-234 to remove the carbon tax from grain drying and barn heating; (c) Canadian farmers have called upon the Senate to pass this important legislation; (d) Bill C-234 would save farmers one billion dollars— That's according to the PBO as well, Mr.

Human Resources committee  This committee does have other work that it does as well, so, Mr. Chair, I would like to move a motion. I move: That, given that: (a) the carbon tax threatens the income security of farmers, farm workers, and employment in the agricultural sector; (b) the Senate is expected to vote on Bill C-234 to remove the carbon tax from grain drying and barn heating; (c) Canadian farmers have called upon the Senate to pass this important legislation; (d) Bill C-234 would save farmers one billion dollars, and help lower food prices for Canadians; the committee call upon Senators who are delaying the passage of the legislation to stop playing political games with the livelihoods of Canadian farmers, recognize the decision of the elected House of Commons, and pass Bill C-234 into law without further delay.

Carbon Pricing  Yesterday, his NDP-Liberal government got its wish when the senators betrayed farmers, gutting this important bill and keeping the carbon tax. This keeps food prices high and farmers struggling. Farmers across Canada buy the goods they need retail and sell what they produce wholesale. After eight long years, farmers know that the Prime Minister is just not worth the cost.

Carbon Pricing  He spent the weekend making desperate and panic-stricken phone calls to senators, pleading with them kill Bill C-234, and yesterday that is exactly what they did when they voted to gut the bill and keep food prices high for struggling Canadians. When will the Prime Minister listen to Canadians and take the carbon tax off farmers, first nations and families who just want to heat their homes?
