Health  I would like to finish by reaffirming that this pandemic has demonstrated that we need a range of measures in our public health tool box to continue to fend off highly infectious diseases.

Health committee  I used to be an athlete, and it was always good to see where you were at compared to your competition—not to suggest health care is a competition, but it is nice to see where we rank. We all know there aren't enough doctors and nurses in Canada, but it's good to know whether they're on the rise or going in the opposite direction.

Health  Mr. Speaker, we are cautiously optimistic about the near-term trajectory for our country. We know that multiple layers of protection, including vaccination, protect us against severe health outcomes from COVID-19.

Business of Supply  It is evident that our protocols have managed to keep Canadians safe. What specific protocols can we look back on as ones that contributed to our lower death rate?

Health committee  These activities not only undermine the scientific process but also actively impair public health efforts and prolong the pandemic at great cost to us all.... Based on the overwhelming evidence for vaccine safety and efficacy, we urge all Canadians to get fully vaccinated as soon as possible.

Government Business No. 8 — Proceedings on Bill C‑10  These initiatives and other public health measures are integral to protecting Canadians from COVID‑19 and supporting the economy as we move into the next phase of the pandemic. I welcome questions from my colleagues.

Health  Mr. Speaker, I want this pandemic to be over as soon as possible, just like every other member of this House. I continue to follow the science and my colleagues have continued to follow the science, and we will ensure that we get through this pandemic. However, the thing I cannot get over is the fact that over 5,000 Canadians are in the hospital right now with COVID-19, and our colleagues across do not seem to care.

Health  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for this very important question. We know that the omicron variant is spreading quickly around the world. That is why the government quickly put health restrictions in place at the borders in order to continue protecting Canadians against the spread of COVID-19.

Health  Speaker, the question that was on the Order Paper was not asked, so I am unsure if the member opposite would like me to talk about measures at the border, health or oil and gas. I am never shocked when members of the Conservative Party would prefer to talk about oil and gas over pretty much any other subject, but here we are. I am pleased to have the opportunity to speak about the government's border measures to protect Canadians from COVID‑19.

Government Business No. 8 — Proceedings on Bill C‑10  I understand how frustrated Canadians are. I count myself among them, but if we want to see an end to this pandemic, then we have to continue to trust science and get people vaccinated. I want to thank once again the over 97% of Miltonians who have already received their first dose.

Health  I want to remind Canadians that they should still exercise caution when travelling abroad and that the risk of becoming sick while abroad is still very real. Canadians need to be aware that there is still a possibility that they will need to extend their trips if they test positive for COVID‑19 while abroad.

Health committee  Thank you, Mr. Chair. We need to get along on this committee. We need to work this out and we need to get to the business of serving Canadians. I fully agree with Ms. Kramp-Neuman and I wasn't even here for the first 45 minutes because I was talking about cellphone data in the House of Commons.

Health committee  These last two years have been relentless, and all of our staff have been exhausted by them, and I imagine that you and your staff have been too, so I just want to acknowledge how challenging they've been and thank you for your extraordinary efforts. I have two questions today, and both will focus on the Public Health Agency of Canada. Canada is fortunate to have one of the lowest death rates of all of our peer nation countries. While it's less productive to focus on how our system proved to be resilient and supported the health and safety of Canadians, I'm wondering why, from your perspectives, given that we have seen this pandemic unveil quite a few gaps in our health care system and some issues that we need to address as soon as possible....

Health committee  Unfortunately, we've spent quite a lot of time. I think it's really important that we get to work. I respectfully submit that we should start our human health resources study on Wednesday. I appreciate that from my colleagues from the Conservatives. We owe it to Canadians to get right to work as quickly as possible with preliminary witnesses and have our first HHR study on Wednesday.

Committees of the House  The Public Health Agency of Canada generates reports and summaries from this data, and we share them with Canadians and with provincial and territorial governments to empower everyone to make the best possible decisions during this very trying time.
