Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I appreciate the opportunity to speak at report stage of Bill C-7, an act to amend the Criminal Code, medical assistance in dying, with which the government is seeking to dramatically expand the existing euthanasia regime in Canada. The government claimed to want to protect vulnerable Canadians.

Conservative Party  Mr. Speaker, this fall I celebrated my 12th year as a Conservative MP. I am thankful for the numerous individuals, men and women alike, who encouraged me to run, and the tremendous support I received from the Conservative Party once I made my decision. When it comes to women in leadership, I am proud of our history, as ours truly is the party of firsts in the country: the first female cabinet minister and the first to serve as acting prime minister, Ellen Fairclough; the first woman to lead the official opposition, Deb Grey; Canada's first female foreign minister, Flora MacDonald; and, finally, Canada's first female prime minister, the Right Hon.

Committees of the House  Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to present, in both official languages, the first report of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, entitled “Main Estimates 2020-21: Vote 1 under Office of the Auditor General”. I also have the honour of tabling, in both official languages, the second report of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, entitled “Funding of the Office of the Auditor General”.

Judges Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for the opportunity to reiterate that I believe when Ms. Ambrose introduced the bill in the last Parliament, she was responding to issues she saw within our judicial system that needed to be addressed. This bill will go a long way to building confidence and trust in our judiciary and judicial system by victims of sexual assault, knowing that judges have agreed to and have undertaken the kind of education that will help them understand the social context in all the issues when making their rulings in these cases.

Judges Act  Madam Speaker, I went back and reviewed the speech that was given by the minister when the bill was introduced in the House. I also went back to a couple of speeches made by colleagues on this side of the House. It is my understanding that the bill was designed to enhance public confidence in our criminal justice system, in particular, the confidence of survivors of sexual assault.

Judges Act  Madam Speaker, not having been in committee, not having been part of the deliberations around the bill and contemplating amendments that would be made to it, I rely on my colleagues who were at the table to put thought and due diligence toward any amendments that would be presented to legislation at committee.

Judges Act  Madam Speaker, I will be splitting my time with the member for Fredericton. I appreciate the opportunity to speak to Bill C-3, an act to amend the Judges Act, at report stage, which would mandate, among other things, education for judges on matters related to sexual assault and would require judges to provide a written reason for their ruling in such cases.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, COVID-19 is the number one concern of all Canadians right now. By reducing Parliament to a committee, proroguing Parliament and now filibustering committees, the Liberals have wasted precious time that has cost Canadians their lives and jobs. The Prime Minister directed Liberal members on the health committee to block my colleague's motion to study the pandemic.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, over the past six months, Canadians have sacrificed a lot and done their part. They have stayed home, missed important milestones in their lives, lost their jobs and have had to watch their life savings disappear, all the while believing the government was working hard on their behalf to develop a plan to ensure we would come out of this pandemic stronger and with the ability to see our economy come back.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, as I rise today to speak to our Conservative motion calling on the health committee to begin a large-scale review of the government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I want to note that this is the first time I have had the opportunity to give a speech in this place since the decision was made back in March to change how we function as a result of COVID-19.

Access to Information  Mr. Speaker, earlier this month, I received an email addressed to an employee who has not worked in my office for over three years. It was from an access to information analyst, asking if we were still interested in information requested nearly four years ago. My question is for the Minister of Transport.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, I too have the privilege of tabling a petition on behalf of Canadians calling on the House of Commons to formally recognize that Uighurs in China have been and are being subjected to genocide, and to use the Justice for Victims of Corrupt Foreign Officials Act (Sergei Magnitsky Law) and sanction those who are responsible for the heinous crimes being committed against the Uighur people.

Speech from the Throne  Mr. Speaker, the people in my riding are deeply concerned. They are concerned for their future. Will they be able to keep their businesses afloat or keep working? For those who are not, will they be able to find a job or continue to support their families? Will their children have a chance at a normal life, to live in a prosperous nation, or will they be burdened by the overwhelming debt of past generations?

COVID-19 Pandemic and Other Matters  Mr. Chair, I will be splitting my time with the hon. member for Cariboo—Prince George. Thanks to the New York Times we know at least 17 manufacturers in China use Uighur forced labour to produce PPE. Despite having a budget that far surpasses the times, PSPC officials could not tell us if the government had purchased PPE manufactured by slave labour.

COVID-19 Pandemic and Other Matters  Mr. Chair, those same officials have also informed us that in order to bid on procurement contracts these manufacturers must simply self-certify they respect human rights. A self-certification in this regard is as trustworthy as a pinky promise. When will the government get serious and ensure taxpayer money is not being used to support the enslavement of Uighurs?
