Labour  Mr. Speaker, during the difficult times brought on by the pandemic, public servants delivered assistance to Canadians. Now they deserve respect. For them, like many other workers, inflation is a major concern. Is the government going to take the negotiations seriously and reach an agreement that respects these public service employees?

Employment  Mr. Speaker, we need to fight the climate crisis like we actually want to win. There is an incredible opportunity. If we make the right investments to tackle the climate crisis and tie that to good jobs, good union jobs and good wages, we can actually create positive economic growth.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, the average price for a one-bedroom apartment in Toronto has now hit $2,500. The cost of housing in the country is skyrocketing. We are in a housing crisis that is gripping the entire nation. Every community is feeling the impact. People cannot find a home that is in their budget.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, economists are warning that a recession is very likely coming our way. The reality is that the debate is not about whether or not it is coming, but about how big or small it is. Workers are staring down the face of a recession with an EI program that does not cover all workers.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, New Democrats are proud that we forced the government for a historic expansion of medicare to include dental care for the first time. That, alongside our push to double the GST rebate, means that families will save up to $1,700 on average per year. We have also forced the government, for the first time ever, to have strings attached to investments to fight the climate crisis, which require guarantees of good wages and good union jobs.

Employment Insurance  Mr. Speaker, the government is not meeting the urgency of the crisis with the steps required. We are proud we forced this government to create a dental care program. We are proud we forced this government to double the GST credit, which will save families a lot of money. However, there is more work to be done.

Finance  Mr. Speaker, millennials in Canada are feeling the squeeze of inflation more than the rest of Canadians. As a CBC article reports, the trustee in insolvency has concluded that Canadian millennials have been dealt a bad hand, and it is true. If we look at it, they have student debt, bad credit card debt and postpandemic tax debt from collecting CERB.

Finance  Mr. Speaker, the cost of living is obviously going up. It is becoming more and more difficult to make ends meet, particularly when it comes time to buy groceries. We learned that the government plans to announce a grocery rebate in the budget. I want confirmation today that this rebate is what we have been asking for for a long time, namely the doubling of the GST credit to help people.

Democratic Institutions  Mr. Speaker, the way we do everything the minister just said is by launching a public inquiry. The allegations published yesterday are shocking and disturbing. It is clear that a public inquiry is needed. These allegations are eroding people's confidence in our democracy. We have an opportunity today.

Democratic Institutions  Mr. Speaker, enough is enough. Every day, new allegations come forward about political interference that erode the public's trust in our democracy. It is becoming more and more clear to the public that the Prime Minister must have known about these allegations. Communities are at risk of being stigmatized.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, the Indian government has suspended cellphone service, Internet service and social media accounts, on top of blocking journalists from covering what is happening while a heavy military presence rolls into Punjab. Why has the Prime Minister remained silent on this? Will he accept and commit to the NDP demands to boycott the G20 events in Chandigarh and Kashmir, to ban BJP officials from entering Canada who have uttered death threats against Canadians, and to do everything possible to ensure the safety of Canadians abroad?

Sadly, the Prime Minister has not shown the same leadership here in Canada. We need a plan that creates good jobs and good union jobs and also protects the environment.

Veterans Affairs  Mr. Speaker, the Liberal government is giving $560 million to a company owned by Loblaws to deliver services for veterans, but the services are not adequate. They are not meeting the needs of veterans. It is clear that the contract is not doing what is necessary to provide veterans with the dignity and respect they need.

Grocery Industry  Mr. Speaker, we are seeing the cost of living continue to hit hard across the country. People are struggling with the cost of everything. We know that some numbers have come down with inflation, but, really, where it counts, like groceries, inflation is still over 10%. That means people go into a grocery store, pick up items, realize they cannot afford them and put them back.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, the cost of living is on the rise. It is getting harder and harder to make ends meet. Affordable housing is especially hard to come by. Since this Prime Minister was elected, rents have doubled because the rules established by the Conservatives and the Liberals favour the ultrarich.
