Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for the question. I do not have a lot of time, but I can say that during the last election campaign, I was surprised to see that the Liberal Party platform was 10 times more progressive and ambitious than the NDP's. I would be pleased to talk to her about all the measures we committed to.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, my colleague from Longueuil—Saint‑Hubert and I are neighbours, as we are separated only by a river. We see one another from our respective side of the river, and I want to congratulate him for the work he is doing in his riding. I would like to reassure my colleague.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my next‑door neighbour for his question. Indeed, there is no river separating the two of us. I also congratulate him for the work he is doing in his constituency. My colleague and I understand that the housing crisis in Montreal and the rise in housing prices are being felt everywhere.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question and for the opportunity to point out that when his party was in power, it invested the least in housing. I know that because at the time, I was a private citizen trying to get funding for co-operative projects, but there was no money.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, today I am very pleased to rise in the House as the parliamentary secretary to the very first Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion of Canada. This new portfolio recognizes that these three issues are closely linked. Affordable housing is essential to supporting diversity and creating inclusive communities that will allow everyone to flourish.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I am addressing the House from the traditional unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishinabe people. I am proud to rise in the House today to support the new Minister of Labour in introducing Bill C‑3, which will better protect Canadian workers and, most importantly, help keep them safe in their workplace.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, housing is a priority for many Quebeckers, including my constituents in Hochelaga. Would the Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion tell the House what the government will be doing to make sure people in my riding and across Quebec can access safe, affordable housing?

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, at the beginning of my last term, I had the honour and privilege of serving as parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Immigration, and I can assure my colleague that all the government's work is aimed at improving the immigration process. This process is a key pillar of the coming economic recovery, and I will be very happy to work with my colleague to make sure that more francophones immigrate to Canada, not only to Quebec, but to all parts of the country, so that they can contribute to francophone vitality in North America.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, one of the government's priorities is to support both families and seniors. I cannot guess what will be in future government budgets, but I can assure my colleague that we made commitments during the last election campaign. I will be one of the people advocating loudly for seniors.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague across the aisle for his question. I would like to ask him a question in return. What the opposition members are telling us today is that, during the pandemic, we should have left Canadians across the country on their own. The people in my riding thank us, because the measures we took helped save their industries and their jobs, and allowed people to continue paying their rent and buying groceries.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague across the aisle for her intervention. As I was saying, in my riding, a large number of students are obliged to live together in small and increasingly expensive apartments. There is also a real homelessness problem, and providing more housing is an obvious solution.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, I will be sharing my time with the hon. member for Don Valley East. First, I would like to thank the citizens of Hochelaga for entrusting me with a second term. While walking around Hochelaga during my last term, I met with women, men, business owners, shopkeepers, and representatives of community organizations who thanked us for all the help they received during the pandemic.

Quebec's National Holiday  Mr. Speaker, 400 years ago, Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day, was celebrated in Quebec on June 24 with bonfires along the St. Lawrence River. Now a national holiday for Quebeckers of all origins, this holiday celebrates our profound attachment to the nation we are today. For me, Quebec's national holiday has always been an important day because it celebrates the nation I chose and that welcomed me 40 years ago, when I emigrated from Chili with my mother.

Federal Dental Care Plan  Madam Speaker, quite a few Canadians have dental insurance through private health insurance plans, while many others are supported by provincial, territorial and federal government programs. Our provincial and territorial partners fund and manage dental services within their areas of responsibility and provide some dental coverage to residents for services provided outside hospitals.
