Public Safety committee Thank you very much, Mr. Chair. I’d like to thank the witnesses for being here today. Mr. Champagne, drawing on your experience, having worked with our economic partners around the world, including the U.S. and Europe, can you walk the Committee through the importance of passing C‑26 to protect not just our own businesses, but the businesses we work with every day under free trade?

Foreign Affairs committee You'll see that there is a recommendation there that the legal services provided in the department be retained. There have, over the years, been various ideas floated to have the Department of Justice handle these particular issues more directly—for example, extradition and issues like that.

Committees of the House Madam Speaker, on the same point of order, as you know, with procedure and traditions in the House, when a party is blocking legislation, in this case the Conservatives are blocking the Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement with their procedural delays, it is perfectly legitimate that it be part of the debate.

Committees of the House Madam Speaker, I just want to reiterate that it is perfectly legitimate to point out that Conservatives have now moved from opposing to now blocking the Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement.

Committees of the House Mr. Speaker, again, there are close to 60 countries in the world that have a price on pollution. We are talking, of course, about Canada; Denmark; the whole European Union, 27 countries; Japan; Korea; Mexico; New Zealand; Norway; South Africa; Singapore; Sweden; and the U.K., and I could say many more, including Ukraine.

Carbon Pricing Mr. Speaker, former Conservative cabinet minister Peter Kent put it this way, “When partisan politics trumps principled unity and support for a valiant democracy.” He was referring to the Conservative record of voting against Ukraine and free trade.

Canadian Heritage committee Thank you. As a follow-up question, we heard about the Meta donation to Harvard. Allegations are that this led to a crackdown on disinformation research at Harvard University. You point to the fact that Meta's new policies allow for clearly false political ads in the United States.

Canadian Heritage committee Thank you very much, Madam Chair. Mr. Trudel, we heard you on the issue of the harassment of journalists. You also spoke about the importance of reducing online hate and eliminating the free ride that web giants were getting. I'm sure you wouldn't be surprised to learn that Meta and Google are currently receiving $1 billion through indirect grants.

Government Business No. 31—Proceedings on Bill C-50 Madam Speaker, there are two bloc parties in the House of Commons, the Bloc Québécois and the “block everything” party. The Conservatives have blocked every piece of legislation. Last Friday, they blocked the Canada-Ukraine trade deal. We now see them blocking investments that would make a real difference in clean energy and in providing workers with more of a voice.

Committees of the House Madam Speaker, the Conservatives chose to vote against the Canada-Ukraine trade deal. On the Day of Dignity and Freedom, the 10th anniversary of Ukrainians reclaiming their democracy, which is profoundly symbolic, the Conservatives repudiated support for Ukraine. Following that, the president of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, representing 1.5 million Canadians of Ukrainian origin, asked the official opposition to revisit its position on Bill C-57 and vote to support the bill in third reading.

Government Business No. 30—Proceedings on Bill C-56 Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to rise tonight to speak on Bill C-56 and on Motion No. 30. I think that these are important initiatives that the NDP has brought forward. I want to start off my speech by expressing my disappointment in the fall economic statement. There are two things that I believe need to be highlighted.

Government Business No. 30—Proceedings on Bill C-56 Mr. Speaker, I have said many times that there are two bloc parties in the House of Commons, the Bloc Québécois and the “block everything” party, the Conservative Party, which has blocked dental care and provisions for doubling the GST credit so that Canadians can put more food on the table.

Committees of the House Madam Speaker, I find it very disturbing that Conservatives are trying to rewrite history. President Zelenskyy was in this very House calling for all parties to support the trade agreement with Ukraine. We had the Ambassador of Ukraine endorsing the trade agreement with Ukraine.

Committees of the House Madam Speaker, given the hypocrisy of what we have heard from the Conservatives tonight, I am pleased to rise to defend the recommendations made by the foreign affairs committee, which the Conservatives are trying to gut. More importantly, I want to come back to the importance of adopting concurrence on the report rather than seeing it gutted, as we are seeing, by the Conservatives.

International Trade Mr. Speaker, my question is for the Minister of International Trade and is regarding the important Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement and Conservatives' concerns of our government's unequivocal support for Ukraine. They were right about one thing, that support for Ukraine on this side of the House is unequivocal.
