Richard Fadden

Public Safety committee  No, I do not, Mr. Chairman.

Public Safety committee  Because national security is not at issue here.

Richard Fadden

Public Safety committee  Mr. Chairman, General McChrystal, as I understand it, smeared his commander-in-chief. I don't think there's an analogy here at all.

Richard Fadden

Public Safety committee  I don't think it's a question, Mr. Chairman, of getting me off the hook. If Parliament inserted foreign interference in the act, clearly there was the recognition that the foreign interference had to be exerted against someone. I can't think of very many other categories, other than those who are engaged in public life.

Public Safety committee  I made a general statement about concerns about foreign interference. I do not believe section 19 applies.

Public Safety committee  I don't think it was a question of right. The act specifies that we must disclose intelligence information to the government. I was making a general statement. Public Safety committee  I think you're asking me to do something that's very difficult. It's something we tend to do on a case-by-case basis. As I tried to suggest in my opening remarks, there really is a spectrum of activities that go from the totally innocuous to somebody who, because of a secret influence or a threat of some sort, changes his or her position.

Public Safety committee  I wasn't sure there was a question there.

July 5th, 2010Committee meeting

Richard Fadden

Public Safety committee  I think it's a rather hypothetical question, Mr. Chairman.

July 5th, 2010Committee meeting

Richard Fadden

Public Safety committee  I already answered that, Mr. Chair.

Richard Fadden

Public Safety committee  First, Mr. Chairman, I want to repeat in English what I said in response to Mr. Laframboise. The information that I gave was not classified. It wasn't sensitive in the national security sense. I repeat, I regret having given that level of detail, and I can assure you I won't be doing that again.
