Justice committee  I think a number of different participants need to do what they need to do. For example, in some parts of Canada, police officers act and do the job of crown prosecutors, which in my opinion is totally unacceptable. Crown prosecutors need to be engaged to do what their role is in the system.

Justice committee  Thank you, Chairman and members of the committee. Today I am speaking to you in my capacity as vice-president of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and president of the Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police. Canada's justice system has two overall responsibilities: protection of the public and ensuring justice for all those charged with committing crimes and those who are victims of crimes.
