It's essential to understand that in an area such as land claims, as the government likes to call it, in a decision to accept an agreement between Canada and, if it's the Mohawks of Kahnawake, there's going to be, and there has been already, a demand that all these people, over 4,000 of them who are on the list here in Ottawa, be a part of a vote.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  I don't know how we're going to squeeze 500 years into 10 minutes, but we'll give it a try. This has been a long-standing issue ever since the Europeans first arrived here in our part of the world, the world that we call Turtle Island. This is not something new. It didn't start with the imposition of the Indian Act.
