Justice committee  Thank you, Chair, and thank you, Minister, for being available for this important bill. I want to convey to committee members that I have two notices of motion, and I will read them now. We won't debate them now, as I understand it. I don't want to cut into the minister's time, but I did want members to be aware of these notices of motion.

Justice committee  If you're asking for my opinion, I can only give my opinion. I'm not the Chair. You're the Chair. I'm only the vice-chair, but my opinion is that we stick to the schedule.

Justice committee  We all work. We all have other requirements, parliamentary requirements, sir. Do not play that card.—

Justice committee  You'll have to put it to a motion, then, because I'm not very happy with that.

Justice committee  As we did tonight....

Justice committee  Chair, I'm trying to understand your philosophy. We have set meetings at this committee.

Justice committee  We or our substitutes will be here. I'm not sure why we're elongating the process. We have set times. Can't we just stay with the set times of the committee?

Justice committee  We're doing our job, sir. This is our job.

Justice committee  Are you suggesting Monday morning as well?

Justice committee  Chair, I appreciate the member's comments. However, the fact of the matter is that the government is in charge of the schedule, and if we're feeling constrained. I don't want to be constrained on the report. I don't want to be constrained on a future bill. Folks who are in government created the schedule.

Justice committee  I know, but government members run the committee.

Justice committee  We've had some good debate on some sections. I will confess that debate from the other side has changed my mind about a couple of sections, where I voted in favour of the proposers on the other side, so this is meaningful. It's important. We're dealing with the Criminal Code of Canada here.

Justice committee  I know we're joking, but we all know that this is serious. Certainly to cause to be administered poison or something similar to that, in our view, should remain a solely indictable offence.

Justice committee  But it's not two years less a day.

Justice committee  One day makes a difference. We'd like a roll call on this one.
