Official Languages committee  Yes, it's always complicated. However, it would be far preferable to give the money directly to the school boards, for example, or to the people who come, because we would see that money instead of wondering where it went. As Marc-AndrĂ© Ouellette would say, finding where the money went is a painstaking business.

Official Languages committee  I actually wear another hat as well. I sit on the Conseil culturel et artistique francophone de la Colombie-Britannique, and so I really support culture.

Official Languages committee  In fact, all non-profit organizations must account to the cent for where the money they receive from the federal government goes. Consequently, I don't see why the provinces shouldn't be required to do the same. For example, we're told that 60% of the funding we receive must be allocated to French, minority language, and 40% to French, immersion language.

Official Languages committee  What I mean here is that a certain amount should be allocated to a given objective. I'm not talking here about my pay cheque, which I can spend as I see fit. I'm talking about supplementary funding granted to francophones living in official language minority communities. That money isn't intended for education; it's supplementary funding.

Official Languages committee  Third, the CSF calls on the committee to recommend amendments to the act expressly requiring Statistics Canada to enumerate all rights-holders under section 23 of the charter.Furthermore, that should be done by means of the short-form census questionnaire, which is sent out to 100% of the population.

Official Languages committee  First, the CSF asks that the act be amended to require that federal institutions consult minority language school boards before disposing of real property. As you know, it is very difficult for the francophone community of British Columbia to determine what properties are available for the construction of schools.
