Justice committee  As I mentioned in my remarks, I think one distinction we need to make is the one between partisan considerations and non-partisan considerations that might influence a discourse between cabinet colleagues and the Attorney General. As I mentioned, I think the better view is that the Attorney General should not pay attention to or be influenced by considerations that are expressed with respect to the interests of a particular political party and so on.

My topic today is that of prosecutorial discretion and the Shawcross doctrine, and I would begin by saying that I was lucky enough to study this topic with two world-renowned Canadian experts, Professor John Edwards and Professor Philip Stenning.
