Medical Assistance in Dying committee  Thank you so much. Ms. Joffe, we've had very legitimate fears raised that large numbers of persons with disabilities would be forced to seek MAID because of intolerable components of their life conditions. You spoke about some people whom you have worked with who have shared that concern with you.

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  Thank you very much, Chair. I have two questions, first for the Collège des médecins du Québec and then for Ms. Joffe. The previous panel talked about MAID safeguards for people with disabilities. They focused on legislative safeguards. The expert panel on MAID for mental disorder as a sole underlying condition came up with a very thorough report that included various safeguards.

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  Before we proceed, can we have assurances that recording is not happening and that pictures are not being taken?

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  Thank you very much, Chair, and thank you to the witnesses. I want to make sure that I understand the Barreau du Québec's position, so I have two questions. This is the the first one. Should a person with a disability be denied access to MAID solely because of their disability, if they meet all established legal and medical criteria?

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  Thank you. For the second question, you talked earlier about legislative safeguards, but there are also clinical safeguards. Do you think there should be a similar report conducted that addresses the needs of people with disabilities—which are extensive needs, and we're not filling them well—the same way that an expert panel conducted a review of a mental disorder as a sole underlying condition?

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  Thank you, Chair. Ms. Marcoux, thank you very much for your personal testimony. As someone who has consulted to pediatric oncology wards, your story rings exceedingly true with me. In a previous session, a witness who is a MAID provider told us that all of those who have chosen MAID have died a good death.

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  Thank you very much, Chair. Thank you so much to our witnesses. I think your thoughtful ideas here about addressing track one have been very helpful to the committee, so I thank you for that. Currently the Canadian Association of MAID Assessors and Providers is developing a training program, which should soon be finished, on MAID assessment and provision.

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  Thank you very much, Mr. Chair. Senator Dalphond and I discussed this already, so I'm speaking on our joint behalf. First, I would ask Dr. Verhagen to send us the four-year study that he referred to so we can have a chance to read it. I have two questions, one for Dr. Beck and one for Dr.

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  Thank you very much, Mr. Chair. I have two questions for Dr. Dhara. You reminded us of what in bioethics is known as the “yuck factor”. As a reminder, it's an intuitive emotional response to something that should be interpreted as evidence for the intrinsically harmful or evil characteristic of that thing.

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  That's a wise thought. In your clinical experience, what proportion of MAID deaths are what physicians—I'm a physician as well—would call good deaths? Those are peaceful, compassionate and family-supported deaths that are a generally positive end to life. What proportion of MAID deaths would be within that kind of category?

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  Thank you, Mr. Chair. I have three questions. They are all for Dr. Gubitz. In a slightly different area, I think you can help us in your role as chair of the MAID curriculum development process. I'll just ask the three questions and then ask you to respond. The first question is this: Will this curriculum that the group is working on be of a similar standard to other curricula currently used in the training of physicians, family physicians or specialists for the royal college?
