Privilege  In March 1966, the House was gripped for several days with the Munsinger case when the then minister of justice, Mr. Cardin, alleged improper conduct on the part of ministers in the former Diefenbaker government. Mr. Cardin stated that certain members of the House were involved with Greta Munsinger, a “self-admitted espionage agent” in the employ of the “Russian intelligence service”.

Electoral Participation Act  I was the first person from my community, Flemingdon Park, to be elected into any level of government, so it was an important thing for our community. I go out to different schools all the time and I speak to young people. Actually, probably one of my favourite things about this job is talking to young people about politics, going into the classrooms to talk about politics.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  We have people and companies around the world looking at Canada as the place to invest. This did not happen by accident. This government has signed off on more trade agreements than any other government in Canada's history. This government has invested, in real dollars, in more capital infrastructure than any government in Canada's history.

Electoral Participation Act  I hope that my colleagues in this chamber will continue the important work of looking at electoral reform and looking at implementing a system of proportional representation. The Liberal Party campaigned on the 2015 election being the last first-past-the-post election. Now would be a really wonderful time to see the Liberals follow through with that promise so that Canadians could see their votes adequately and effectively represented right here in the House of Commons.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  Ultimately, it shows very clearly to Canadians in all regions of the country what they can expect from a Liberal government versus a Conservative opposition, or the Conservative-Reform party compared to the Liberal Party. Let us be very clear on that. A few weeks back, I was at the party's annual general meeting, where some of the members were asking me a very simple question.

Taxation  Mr. Speaker, the Liberal Premier of Newfoundland says the Prime Minister's carbon tax will harm working-class people just trying to heat their home or drive to work. The former Liberal finance minister, whom he appointed, says that the latest job-killing tax that he has brought in will drive investment out of the country, and the Liberal Treasury Board president, whom he appointed, accuses the Prime Minister of socialist bafflegab.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  With colleagues here in the House, we passed Motion No. 45, my private member's motion that put a green lens on federally funded infrastructure projects. With government and industry partners, we brought NATO's Defence Innovation Accelerator of the North Atlantic, DIANA, to Halifax. With indigenous partners, we secured funding for a new Mi'kmaw Native Friendship Centre in downtown Halifax.

Forestry Industry  Mr. Speaker, this so-called radical decree is based on a bill proposed by the prime minister that all experts say did the most to protect the environment in Canada. I am talking about former prime minister Brian Mulroney, a Progressive Conservative. It is unfortunate to see the Conservative Party abandoning something that the Progressive Conservatives understood very well.

Electoral Participation Act  Madam Speaker, I am going to start with a little rebuttal to my colleague who just spoke from the Liberal Party. He said that the Liberals care and the Conservatives do not. I agree with the latter part; I do not agree with the former because for everything that Canadians care about, the New Democrats accomplished in this Parliament, whether we are talking about dental care, pharmacare, anti-scab legislation or affordable housing, and I can go on and on.

Taxation  Speaker, it is not just common-sense Conservatives who are saying that the Prime Minister's latest tax hike on small businesses, farmers, home builders and health care is not worth the cost. Now, former Liberal Treasury Board president Scott Brison says the Prime Minister's support for the tax hike is a combination of moral sanctimony and economic complacency for ministers who simply do what PMO tells them.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  Madam Speaker, the member always has the option to leave the room if he is feeling uncomfortable. The truth does hurt, and I can appreciate that. At the end of the day, if I had any sense of a progressive nature, I would feel very uncomfortable within the Conservative Party today.

Main Estimates 2024-25  We have a lost decade here in Canada. It is not just me saying what I am going to say. Members can look to John Manley, former Liberal finance minister; Bill Morneau, former Liberal finance minister; and David Dodge, current Liberal and former governor of the Bank of Canada. These individuals are all saying the same thing: Canada needs to focus more on growth.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, it is not partisanship from me; it is his own former Liberal Treasury Board president who calls it socialist bafflegab. In fact, the tax begins applying on the very first dollar that a small business earns. He has been promising that raising taxes would make life fairer.
