Black Community Support  Mr. Speaker, since the tragic death of George Floyd May 25 in Minneapolis, the words “black lives matter” have mobilized not only Americans but millions seeking justice around the world and here in Canada. My own hometown of Châteauguay held its first-ever Black Lives Matter protest, attended by hundreds of people of all ages and from all racial and linguistic backgrounds, including our next-door neighbours in Kahnawake.

An Act Respecting Further COVID-19 Measures  Madam Speaker, I would like to congratulate my colleague on her speech and point out that today's bill will really address several of the needs I have seen in my riding. People with disabilities and parents of young adults with disabilities were very disappointed when the House could not come up with legislation that would help them.

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, I had the opportunity to have some good discussions with my colleague, who used to teach at a CEGEP. I would like him to comment on this because I believe he is still in touch with the student community. How are students reacting? Are the measures we discussed today being well received by Quebec students?

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, I really enjoyed that lovely speech by my colleague opposite. It goes to show that collaboration in the House has enabled us to introduce measures that will help students. I would like my colleague to comment on two things. First is the reason why we had to look at what is happening with students.

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her speech. The co-operation among all the political parties in the House has paid off. The bill will help students. It has been a long time since I was a student. There was a recession in 1981 when I graduated from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, where I learned French.

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, I really appreciate this opportunity to discuss this with my colleagues today. I thank the hon. member opposite for his speech. We can supply a bit more information that would explain why we chose one amount over another. It is really hard to strike a balance when we want to help people during this crisis while also taking other programs into account and meeting other needs in our society.

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank the member opposite for his very thoughtful speech about the legislation that we are considering. I appreciate his reminiscing about his recent academic career, because that is the kind of thing I have been hearing from the students in my riding. This is the most pivotal point in any student's academic career or for anyone who is starting a professional career.

Canada Emergency Student Benefit Act  Mr. Speaker, I would like to ask my hon. colleague a question. He mentioned that all MPs have been fielding a lot of questions from their constituents since the start of this crisis. My office has heard about the needs of workers who have lost their jobs and the multiple needs of business owners, and I was very pleased and reassured to be able to address those needs through the measures announced by our government every day and every week.

Opposition Motion—Pharmacare  Madam Speaker, I listened with interest and with emotion to what my colleague said he has been hearing from his constituents. We, the members from the province of Quebec, already have a pharmacare plan, but my constituents have mentioned that there are gaps in coverage. I would like my colleague to tell us what the federal government accomplished with this major process so we can create a pharmacare program that helps everyone.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, since 2015, our government has been making responsible investments for Canadians, for example, by lowering taxes, supporting families and ensuring that everyone has a fair chance to succeed. Because of these investments, Canada and Canadians are in a strong position to respond to emerging challenges.

Relations with Indigenous Peoples  Madam Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for his very passionate speech. My riding is next to his, and my constituents could not take the train from Candiac to Montreal either. I am grateful for their patience as this situation unfolds. I remember having protesters outside my office a few months ago, and I took the opportunity to chat with them.

Members will recall that the situation was worrisome for several years. This fund is meant to provide support for people who lose their jobs in the conventional way.
