Points of Order  Madam Speaker, like the previous member, I stand today to address some of what I believe are very serious challenges when it comes to the questions posed related to the Order Paper questions. I would read from the Standing Orders of the House of Commons. This is the September 2021 edition where 39(5)(b) states: If such a question remains unanswered at the expiration of the said period of 45 days, the matter of the failure of the ministry to respond shall be deemed referred to the appropriate standing committee.

Points of Order  Madam Speaker, absolutely. Personally, I would not want to drag it on. I would just point to Standing Order 19 on points of order, which indicates the effort of being succinct certainly when addressing these fundamental questions we have before us. There are three specific questions.

Oil and Gas Industry  Mr. Speaker, the Liberals label the carbon tax a “market mechanism” or a “standard”, when in reality it is a fancy way of saying that the centrepiece of their environmental policy is based on forcing Canadians to pay more. Albertans are going to pay nearly $4,000 more per year when both carbon tax 1 and 2 are imposed.

Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act  Madam Speaker, my friend and colleague from Peace River—Westlock talked a lot about some of the innovations taking place in the province of Alberta. I know there is currently a provincial election going on there. Certainly, I am sure that he will be following the results closely, as will I.

Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act  Madam Speaker, congratulations to my colleague from Peace River—Westlock on the results of the previous vote. One of the most disappointing elements of this debate that is taking place is that at the environment committee, which I am sure this member follows closely, there was a lot of work across the aisle.

Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act  Mr. Speaker, for a member of the House to suggest that another member of the House does not have the right to represent his constituents in this place goes beyond the pale—

Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act  Mr. Speaker, my question is very simple. Why did the Liberals flip-flop from how they voted at committee, in the collaborative environment that we had come to, on a bill that the Liberals were obviously happy with, opposing a similar NDP amendment at committee? Why did they flip-flop and betray the collaborative initiative of a committee that was endeavouring to find that right balance?

Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act  Mr. Speaker, I find it interesting. It is almost as if my colleague from the Liberal Party has not actually paid that close attention to the developments that have taken place regarding Bill S-5. When this bill came from the Senate, there were some concerns. In fact, his party shared some of the concerns that the Conservative Party shares.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I find it so troubling that the coalition of the Liberals and the NDP seems to be bent on bringing American-style politics into the conversation, yet what I find really interesting is that they actually invited a former presidential candidate who supports the second amendment in the United States.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I will ask the member from the Bloc a question that I asked one of his colleagues during the discussion at committee. As I heard from them, some of the initiatives the Liberal government is forwarding are similar to those that have already been implemented in Quebec.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, it seems that the government members are looking for more information related to the firearms that Conservatives are concerned that the Liberals are seeking to ban, so I would seek unanimous consent from the House to table the amendment—

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I greatly appreciate the speech that the opposition whip gave, which articulated some of the really important context that highlights some of the debate. It is clear that the Liberals, in the work they did in committee, wanted to go further. In fact, there were members of the committee who said that.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, as always, it is an honour to be able to rise in this House to present the issues that are so pressing to Canadians. Today, I have a petition signed by many Canadians. They hope to draw it to the attention of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, so that the minister can take action related to the Supreme Court of Canada's ruling in R. v.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I am very sorry to interrupt my colleague from the Bloc. In one of the previous questions, the member for Saanich—Gulf Islands referenced that the worst shooter in Canadian history was legally allowed to own guns. That is false. He was under a prohibition order. They were not legal guns.
