Democratic Institutions  Mr. Speaker, New Democrats care deeply about democracy and are deeply concerned about political interference in our system. That is why we forced the government to end the obstruction in committee and to allow the chief of staff of the Prime Minister to testify, rendering the Conservative motion useless, which is not surprising because the Conservatives just want to play games.

Democratic Institutions  Mr. Speaker, every day, Canadians' confidence in our electoral system is being eroded. Recent reports indicate that at least two times the Prime Minister was advised that Chinese government officials transferred money to Canadian political candidates. This is serious, and Canadians have started to wonder why it seems like the Prime Minister is hiding something.

Democratic Institutions  Mr. Speaker, it seems like the Prime Minister is more interested in protecting himself than protecting the electoral system. Every day, new things come up. Every day, there are new allegations of foreign interference. This undermines confidence in our electoral system. Canadians want to know why there is such secrecy around this.

Democratic Institutions  Mr. Speaker, the allegations of foreign interference are disturbing and serious. That is why, at committee, we asked for a public inquiry. We asked for a process that is independent and public. Why is the Prime Minister ignoring these two criteria?

Democratic Institutions  Mr. Speaker, if the Prime Minister really wanted to restore the confidence of Canadians, he would call a public inquiry. Here is the situation. We have a Conservative Party that only cares about playing political games with something so serious as our democracy. New Democrats understand that this is serious and it is not an opportunity to play political games.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, it is very interesting that the Conservatives are talking about health care. We have not heard them say anything about health care for a number of weeks, and then their leader jumps in to say that they absolutely agree with the Liberal plan, which is not surprising because they believe in private care.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I have spoken to Quebeckers who have run into major challenges with the health care system. The interesting thing is that when they speak about the challenges and the problem, they never talk about jurisdictions. They talk about the fact that they want all levels of government to resolve the problems with our health care system in Montreal, Quebec City and all the provinces.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, let us look over the facts. We have some clear evidence in front of us. When the Prime Minister was asked directly about Doug Ford's plan to increase for-profit care, he called it “innovation”. He gave it the green light. Let us go even further. When Premier Doug Ford was asked about whether the issue of for-profit care was even raised, Doug Ford's response was no, that it did not come up at all in conversation.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I will be splitting my time with the member for Vancouver East. New Democrats have a vision for health care. We believe that health care should be there for people when they need it, that hospitals should be properly staffed and that workers always have the time to listen and to care for patients.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, everyone in our country should be able to find a job that pays the bills, a home that is in their budget and build a good life for themselves and their families, but sadly that is not the case—

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, I know it is difficult because we have forced the government to do so many things. I was talking about the GST rebate that we forced the government to do, not just the rental subsidy that we forced it to do. The reality is that the cost of living is going up, and it is getting harder and harder to make ends meet.

Health  Mr. Speaker, under the government's watch, people across this country are spending money out of pocket for surgeries. It costs $30,000 for hip surgery and $70 to see a family doctor. In fact, one of the corporations making this happen, Maple, is owned by Loblaws, so Loblaws is not only ripping off Canadians when it comes to their groceries, but is also exploiting the desperation of Canadians who need to see a family doctor.
