Transport committee  Thank you, Madam Chair. Thank you all for being here today. Thank you for coming from Calgary and Montreal. For you in Vancouver, even though you're not here, it's great to see you tonight. I want to start with you, Mr. Sartor. In Edmonton, we have a fantastic airport, too. However, we're also in the process of looking at building that third runway, eventually.

Transport committee  That's unique to Alberta. Has no other jurisdiction, provincially, considered something like this since 1972? That's not a question for you, but I do notice that some of the Nav Canada folks are still around here. Perhaps they could answer after the committee. You talked about the cargo growth that you're experiencing.

Transport committee  Do you have any comments, Mr. Driedger?

Transport committee  That's good life advice, I think, Madam Chair.

Transport committee  Yes. I'll end with a comment. I'm from Edmonton, and the airport there is expanding its commercial business. There's certainly a growing cargo piece to it, but it's about half an hour or 45 minutes away from the first home within the city of Edmonton. I constantly hear that the airport is too far from the city limits.

Transport committee  Thank you, Madam Chair. Thank you to the witnesses for being here today and for travelling to come here. You mentioned Hamilton a number of times. The GTA's Pearson airport has now—we'll use the word “absorbed”—Hamilton. Are you aware of any other opportunities that Pearson is trying to gain within the GTA at this point?

Transport committee  Do we have data on how many people are being fined, how many of these consequences are...?

Transport committee  Those would be specific airports reporting on that. I anticipate our report is going to provide a recommendation to Transport Canada. If the recommendation is that we track this at the Transport Canada national level for each airport, is that the information we should be advising Transport Canada to track?

Transport committee  So, airports would have the information, or are we talking about airlines?

Transport committee  Mr. Isaac, have you received a response to your petition? Unfortunately, it didn't meet the 500 threshold, but did you receive a response from the minister on your petition?

Transport committee  Welcome to the committee, and thank you for being here today. I think I know the contradiction that we're essentially facing. I'm from Edmonton, and there's an airport that's a fair distance from the downtown and a number of residential homes. Even though it's expanding, it's still a fair distance from residential properties.

Transport committee  I would just put on the record that I absolutely accept the friendly amendment put forth by Mr. Hardie.
