Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, the short answer is this. I have no idea why the Liberals would not address such long outstanding issues such as softwood lumber, buy America provisions and a whole host of other provisions. I do not know.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, yes, certainly 70% is better than zero, but, as I understand it, the industry was largely supplied by aluminum from North America. The industry challenged, through CITT hearings, dumping allegations in 2009 and again in 2014. The Americans did the same thing in 2010 and 2015.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, as this is my maiden speech, I would respectfully ask for the traditional maiden speech consideration to acknowledge those who have helped create this opportunity to address the House today. As a colleague stated several weeks ago, cats have nine lives, but members of Parliament who do not acknowledge their families and forget them have only one, so I want to begin by thanking my wife, Charlene, for her support as we began going down this road several years ago.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, early in the member's comments he referred to Canada's AAA credit rating, and in response to a colleague he also referred to Canada's excellent present balance sheet. Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my colleague for the reminder to thank my spouse and I will do that more appropriately in an upcoming speech. As a new member, I take that advice seriously. I have also heard the government's call to continue to campaign as a transparent government.

International Trade  Madam Speaker, there is an aluminum extrusion and parts company in Chatham that has grown to over 250 employees in less than 10 years. We have all heard the government's talking points, saying that 70% aluminum content is better than 0%, ignoring the reality that 70% is far less than our present market share.

Chatham-Kent—Leamington  Madam Speaker, I wish to dedicate my first member's statement in this House to the residents of Chatham-Kent—Leamington. They proudly live in Canada's most southerly riding, farming some of Canada's most productive soils and adding value to our farm products and our food sector.

Agriculture  Mr. Speaker, as this is my first opportunity to rise in the House, I would like to thank the residents of Chatham—Kent—Leamington for the opportunity to serve. The Liberal failure to apply for the negligible risk status with the World Organisation for Animal Health last July was a shocking sign of incompetence.
