Indigenous Languages Act  Madam Speaker, I appreciate the sincerity of my colleague's question. This is a fundamental first step to establishing the framework. Once we have the framework in place, we can then start to look at what the funding is going to be to ensure that the positions and the various structures that are established within the framework have what they need in order to be viable moving into the future.

Indigenous Languages Act  Mr. Speaker, this is a great opportunity, in a non-partisan way, to show support for a particular piece of legislation that goes a long way in terms of being a very tiny attempt to start to correct many of the wrongs that have been done to indigenous people throughout Canada over the past century and beyond.

Indigenous Languages Act  Mr. Speaker, it is an honour to rise today to participate in such an important debate, a debate that in my opinion has been a long time coming. It is great to see this legislation being put forward, and it is great to have an opportunity to contribute to this. It is safe to say that this legislation is coming as a direct result of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report, a report that highlighted and underscored the need for the Canadian government to take action with respect to truthfully and in an honest and sincere way moving toward reconciliation as it relates to the indigenous communities throughout Canada.

Indigenous Languages Act  Madam Speaker, the member basically talked about virtue signalling and is accusing this government of doing that. He then went on to talk about how it was the former prime minister and the former Conservative government that brought in the truth and reconciliation study. When the results came out from that study, the prime minister at the time, Stephen Harper, basically said it was not even on his radar to do anything about it.

Respecting Families of Murdered and Brutalized Persons Act  Madam Speaker, despite the fact that the bill might be in compliance, as the member has suggested, I am curious if he can explain the process of it coming through the House last time and being voted on. I understand that it sat on the Order Paper for a while. For some reason, it did not move forward from there.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I have a lot of respect for this member. He has some legislative experience and he has been around here for a while. I do question, though, some of the rhetoric that is coming from the other side of the House, in particular about this notion that somehow Canadians are paying more in tax.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I want to take this opportunity to welcome the new member to the House. His riding neighbours mine. I drive through his riding, both going to Ottawa and coming home at the end of the week. As I am half Italian, I grew up eating a lot of pasta and butter. I always drive through his riding around dinnertime on Thursday nights, so he can feel free to invite me over.

Gnome for a Home Cards  Mr. Speaker, today I am honoured to stand and recognize a member of my community, a 10-year-old named Lylia. Concerned about homeless people in our community being alone at one of her favourite times of the year, Lylia decided to raise money for them. She hand painted seasons greetings cards of gnomes and started selling them for $5 each.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, we know it is a new day when the Conservatives start quoting from the Toronto Star and not the Fraser Institute. This is impressive. I feel sorry for the member. He is virtually the only member of the Conservative Party who has stood today. He is defending the entire Conservative Party on affordable housing.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I totally agree with the member that some people out there are struggling and need housing. In my community, the waiting list to get into affordable housing has over 1,000 people. This is a small community of 120,000 people. There is no doubt that we need to do more.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, through the member's question, she never addressed that I am was accusing the NDP of playing politics. Rather, she tried to spin it around and tell us that was what the we were doing. However, in reality—

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, it is an honour today to rise in the House to speak to what is such an incredibly important issue, not just throughout my particular riding or Ontario but indeed in the entire country. We have heard various stories from people today about the pressing need for affordable housing.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I have heard the member talk a number of times about the stress test with respect to mortgage lending. Given the way he talks about it, one would almost think that the government brought that test in and implemented it for no reason other than to just make life more difficult for Canadians.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, one has to look at the options. If it is not the Liberals in government, it will be the Conservatives. Let us look at what the Conservatives do when it comes to, in particular, renewable energy and green energy. They will copy the playbook of Doug Ford, who ripped electric vehicle charging stations out of the GO stations, and for what purpose?
