Bills of Exchange Act  Mr. Speaker, I rise again to express solidarity with my colleague and to thank him for teaching me so much about Mi'kmaq culture and for speaking the Mi'kmaq language in the House of Commons for the first time. His interventions and interjections on the committee we mutually serve, indigenous and northern affairs, have brought so much to the conversation and debate.

Business of Supply  I do not want to be found in contempt of Parliament so I will not go on much longer, but I would ask my friendly colleague opposite from Carleton if he thinks we have spent too much helping Canadians over the last eight or nine months at the most difficult time in the history of the world, and—

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  Perhaps your colleagues will go first so that you can hear their take on it as well. My question is specific to women, children and mental health. I'm hoping that you can identify specifically what factors are negatively impacting women and kids and putting them in an incrementally vulnerable position.

Resumption of debate on Address in Reply  We are living in an uncertain time. Many Canadians across the nation are worried about their future. We acknowledge those valid anxieties Canadians might have and we promise to work tirelessly toward a safer Canada.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  Before I start, I would like to acknowledge that I'm on the sacred territory of the Haudenosaunee, the Huron-Wendat and many first nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. My questions will focus on youth. Minister Miller, we know that when indigenous communities and indigenous nations move toward self-governance and self-determination, they have better outcomes across the board, whether that's in health, education or other ways, but part of this involves supporting effective community governance in first nations.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  I like to acknowledge that it's a great boat and a great vehicle, so thank you for that contribution. My questions today will focus on youth and on how sports and arts dovetail with mental health supports in your various communities. I'd love to hear from everybody, so I'd ask you, if you could, to keep your interventions brief. Then we can hear from everybody. I think I'd start with Chief Poitras, if I could, to more thoroughly understand how the supports with respect to mental health can be better and more culturally relevant and can create better outcomes for youth with respect to arts and sports specifically.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  Thanks, Chief. Mr. Jackson, my dad and I watched a lot of North of 60 when I was growing up but we also watched a lot of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and when you appeared on that show, it very cool to see a Canadian and an indigenous person represented in space. Could you talk about your relationship with kids?

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  It's really nice to hear from you and gather some insight today. My question is mainly on the north, so I guess I will direct it first to Mr. Ejesiak, but somebody else might have follow-up afterwards. Mr. Ejesiak, the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency has two COVID-19-related support systems for small and medium-sized businesses in the north, the $15-million northern business relief fund and the $34.3-million regional relief and recovery fund.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  We knocked on doors for about 400 days. We spoke to a lot of our neighbours, and those are the first people I want to thank, the people who sent me here to represent them. I would also like to thank my campaign manager, Geoff Carpenter, a team of volunteers, my mother Beata, my dad Joe, my brother Luke and my dog Cairo.

Coldest Night of the Year Walk  They are both in their nineties now, and they have walked every single year, true champions of this cause. Our government introduced Canada's first-ever poverty reduction strategy, and the recent Canadian income survey indicates that over one million Canadians have been lifted out of poverty since 2015. Collectively, we have achieved Canada's lowest rate of poverty ever.
