Corrections and Conditional Release Act  Mr. Speaker, it is an honour to rise today to speak to this very important legislation. I come from a part of the country that has six penitentiary facilities in the immediate areas. It used to be seven before the former Conservative government closed one of them. People in my riding take great pride in the work that our correctional officers do.

Canada Labour Code  Madam Speaker, I am delighted to hear the comments from the other side about their support of the bill. Back in the 80s, my mother worked at Kingston Interval House, in the Kingston area. It is a place where women who are abused can go and seek the assistance and resources they require.

Canada Labour Code  Madam Speaker, I know that the Conservatives have spent as much time as possible on this issue trying to attack the Prime Minister specifically rather than address the importance of this piece of legislation. I would like to correct the record of the member in his speech when he questioned the Prime Minister's ability to apologize.

Canada Labour Code  Madam Speaker, I admit that there is a vast array of subjects that we get to be part of and contribute to in the House. This is one of those ones that I do not have the level of detail that the member is referring to when she talks about the various different components. What I can say is that I have a great degree of faith in the legislative process, the committee process we have, where the bill has come from and where it has gone through the process in order to determine the best safeguards to be put in place for victims.

Canada Labour Code  Madam Speaker, I have already answered this question. I could be brief and just say that. Again, it comes back to the leadership that is displayed on this side of the House. It is about identifying the problems, creating the policies and processes to put them in place, to make sure that all victims are protected through the process they will have to go through, should they have complaints to bring forward.

Canada Labour Code  Madam Speaker, leadership is about identifying problems, creating and identifying solutions for those, putting the processes and policies in place to ensure that people have access to the resources that they need in order to overcome the violence we are talking about in the bill.

Canada Labour Code  Madam Speaker, I will be sharing my time with the member for Vancouver Centre. I am pleased to rise today to participate in the debate on Bill C-65. The main goal of the legislation is to ensure that all employees of federal jurisdiction, including those in federal workplaces and in federally regulated industries, are treated fairly and protected from harmful behaviours such as harassment and sexual violence.

Lesa Zoerb  Mr. Speaker, I would like to share my deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Lesa Zoerb. Lesa served as a correctional officer and was killed in a motor vehicle accident on October 7. She was returning to a corrections institution in Saskatchewan after supervising an offender in hospital.

Global Warming  Madam Speaker, I am more than willing to work with any member in the House to get to these solutions. I did not present my 10-minute speech on what the government's position is. I presented it on what my position is. This is how I feel about the issue and what I think we need to do immediately.

Global Warming  Madam Speaker, I started my speech by saying that I was impressed to hear so many Conservatives talk about climate change. I believe that at least the Conservatives who are here tonight believe in climate change. I will leave it at that. On the member's second question, which was about the different levels of classification, that might just be the reality of the economic situation we are in.

Global Warming  Madam Speaker, I would like to inform you that I will be sharing my time tonight with the member for Winnipeg Centre. For me, this debate is of critical importance. I could talk about this beyond midnight and into the morning. That is how important this issue is for me personally.

Global Warming  Madam Speaker, it is an honour to rise in the House today to speak about this very important topic. I want to thank the member for Beaches—East York for bringing it forward because, if we get nothing else from tonight's debate, I have now heard the Conservatives say “climate change” and “science on climate” more than I think I have in any other debate leading up to today.

Global Warming  Madam Speaker, of course, now they are heckling that they have always believed in it, but if that makes them feel better, I am okay with it. I am okay to continue with the heckling going on, Madam Speaker. Do not worry about it.

Global Warming  Mr. Speaker, my question comes from the statements she made, in particular about companies that are doing great and innovative things. She talked about one company in agriculture that was developing a new root system that would go deeper than we have seen in so many years. She talked about another company that was exploring different fuel types for vehicles based on capturing carbon.
