Interparliamentary Delegations  Mr. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 34(1), I have the honour to present to the House, in both official languages, three reports of the Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie, the APF. The first report is respecting its participation at the meeting of the Cooperation and Development Committee of the APF, held in Cambodia, from May 3 to 5, 2019.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. Maybe I am just lucky, but it seems to me that every time I make a speech, he asks me questions. I invite him to continue, because it allows me to further explain to Canadians what our government’s plans are and what changes it is making.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, we should not be playing politics with this. The member for Victoria is talking about the Visa cards and everything else, and she said in her opening statement that the Liberals are not following through on their commitments. I am sorry, but if one reads the platform correctly, one will see that we said that we were going to move the bar from 15 weeks to 26 weeks, which was the recommendation of the Canadian Cancer Society and various other organizations across the country.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I think the member has to look at the big picture, which is that 64% of Canadians only use up to 10 weeks of the 15 weeks available to them, and then 34% use up to 15 weeks. By moving forward and changing it up to 26 weeks, we are moving that target. We may have no Canadians needing more than 26 weeks.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I will be sharing my time with the member for Niagara Centre. I am pleased to participate in the debate on the opposition motion on employment insurance and sick benefits. For starters, I want to say that our government is not blind to the financial difficulties that Canadians may face during the most challenging times of their lives.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I thank the member for Lac-Saint-Jean for his speech. He gave an overview of this week's discussions. He clearly paid close attention to the debate and I commend him for that. My comments last week were meant to be lighthearted. They were certainly not meant as a personal attack.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his very interesting speech. It is my understanding that the Conservative Party will be supporting CUSMA. We thank the Conservatives for that support, because it is important. I do want to bring up one point. I always measure what is happening.

Veterans Affairs  Mr. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 32(2), I have the honour to table, in both official languages, the 2018-19 annual report of the veterans ombudsman, entitled “Focus on Fairness”. The title in French is “Mettre l'accent sur l'équité”.

Edgar Gallant  Mr. Speaker, not long ago, we lost one of Prince Edward Island's great Canadians. Edgar Gallant's career with Canada's public service was a long and brilliant one. Mr. Gallant also made notable contributions to the francophonie. He chaired the committees that established francophone school systems in Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Manitoba.

Veterans Affairs  Mr. Speaker, our government understands the importance of listening to veterans, their families and their advocates. It also understands the importance of hearing what they have to say and acting accordingly. As I said earlier, we have invested $10 billion in enhanced benefits and services for veterans and their families.

Veterans Affairs  Mr. Speaker, I am proud to rise this evening to tell the House just how much our government values the important contributions that veterans have made to Canada and the world. Their well-being and their families' well-being is something we have supported and will continue to support as we move forward.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, my colleague has a way of drilling down to the key issues and I appreciate the way he does that. I am sure he remembers last year when we were talking about the trade deal in the House, CUSMA or NAFTA 2.0, whatever one wanted to call it at the time. The President of the United States said that he would not sign a deal without a sunset clause in it.

Veterans Affairs  Madam Speaker, our benefits are demand driven. This means that the money is always available to veterans who come forward. We are not leaving any money unspent. We are making sure that the money is available for all our veterans. We know that all members of the House want to see veterans taken care of, and that is exactly what we are doing and will continue to do.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, even though the trade deal is not signed today, already there are trade deals happening on the ground. It is not as if everything stops. That is what is important. However, I want to finish with a tweet about CUSMA by Conservative Jason Kenney from Alberta: Relieved that a renewed North American Trade Agreement has been concluded.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for his question and the point that he raised. My colleague needs to recognize that, before the agreement, there was no protection for steel or aluminum. With this agreement, 70% of aluminum will come from North America. I know there is the issue of parts, but with all due respect, the group of people who came to Ottawa yesterday certainly did not stop in Quebec City.
