Canada Pension Plan  Mr. Speaker, there are so many other tools available instead of dealing with and causing problems for the economy. I feel for the people who speak to seniors, and I do that in my own riding. Seniors will come and talk to me about the issues they have. However, the reality is that there are only 3.7% of seniors who are actually below the poverty line, and we have tools for that.

Canada Pension Plan  Mr. Speaker, it is certainly an honour for me to be here today to speak to the bill and to the amendments that have been put forward. First, as many people have done, I would like to honour our veterans. I will be in Red Deer for the ceremony, and then I will be dropping in to all the Legions in the riding.

Agriculture and Agri-Food  Mr. Speaker, Alberta is about to face another test. Harsh weather conditions have left hundreds of thousands of acres still to be harvested and Alberta farmers are bracing for the worst. The agriculture minister needs to understand this is a catastrophe for farmers and farm families and they need help.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, if we think about the Royal Canadian Air Farce, and Dave Broadfoot having just passed away, the member from Kicking Horse Pass would have had a field day with today's debate. Maybe Sergeant Renfrew will be in eventually, or Big Bobby Clobber. I am wondering if the member could talk about the need to hear from some of the cabinet ministers who are affected by this particular ruling.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, when I was listening to the member's comments, it did not seem at all as though he was speaking to the motion today. He was talking about other issues. He talked a bit about the Conflict of Interest and Ethics Commissioner, but he also talked about volunteers and what they do on the campaign trail.

Agri-Trade Expo  Mr. Speaker, it is a stressful time for many western Canadian farmers as they struggle to get this year's crop in the bin. Getting together with industry leaders in agricultural manufacturing, farm business analysts, and fellow producers at Red Deer's Agri-Trade Expo, November 9 to 12, would be an excellent time to either celebrate the harvest or discover new management strategies to address whatever new twists Mother Nature may bring.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I have faith in the work by the Conservative Party on this particular position. I have faith in the work done by the NDP in bringing this very important issue forward. It is important for us to realize that it is time something is done about this.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, that is what we have done. There are changes and situations that need to now come into play. Whether or not it was completed in the way it should have been, this is something we need to continue looking at. It is interesting that today the Liberals speak about all the things they are going to do.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, in the last election campaign, there were many things said in the to and fro that took place. The NDP looked at how to manage this situation and felt that it could be done responsibly and without creating a deficit. Certainly, when the Liberals have gone three times higher on the credit card they asked the Canadian people for, and that is where they have gone, they should have been able to find $155 million to help out our Canadian children.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, at the outset, I would like to let everyone know that I will be sharing my time with the member for Fort McMurray—Cold Lake. Mr. Speaker, about 40 years ago, I had the opportunity to go to Saddle Lake. I was there for the centennial commemoration of the signing of Treaty No. 6.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, that is important. Even in the case of the Syrian refugees, it was very difficult. The school system was not ready and had to make many changes. We should start by looking at private sponsors. Many of them put their hearts out, and are looking for opportunities to assist.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague from Mégantic—L'Érable for his very relevant question. As a former school teacher, I am very concerned about the issues surrounding young people as they try to get a basis for where they are going in the future. When we see those individuals who have been tormented and have gone through terrible stress, opportunities for them are something we should be extremely concerned about.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, to start, I would like to mention that I will be sharing my time with the member for Kitchener—Conestoga. It is an honour to speak to today's opposition day motion on the plight of the Yazidi people. I would like to start by reflecting on how Canadians have helped the oppressed around the world.

I was pleased to listen to the member for Hull—Aylmer, and I have had a chance to speak him on numerous occasions.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, I rise today to present two petitions on behalf of Canadians regarding impaired driving causing death. Families for Justice is a group of Canadians who have had a loved one killed by an impaired driver. They believe that Canada's impaired driving laws are much too lenient, and want the crime to be called what it is, “vehicular homicide”.
