Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, we need to give people the supports they need with some of the biggest costs in their lives. Some people do not go to see a dentist because it costs too much. People cannot get the health care they need, and that has an extra cost. We know that if we do not invest in the programs that people need, people will not be able to live their best lives.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, of course we have to work with the provinces, but let us talk about building back better. If nothing is done right now, what we will continue to see is a K-shaped recovery, meaning that for a lot of people things are getting worse. It is hard for them to find work.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I am honoured to follow the powerful words of the member for New Westminster—Burnaby. We always have choices and those choices say a lot about what our priorities are. Right now, we are faced with a pandemic. It has been incredibly difficult. It has caused a lot of pain.

Veterans' Week  Mr. Speaker, this year has been incredibly difficult for so many Canadians. COVID-19 has devastated so many communities across Canada. In many regions, Canadians are going to spend what is likely to be their first Remembrance Day at home instead of at their local cenotaphs with their neighbours.

Seniors  Mr. Speaker, we are in the midst of the second wave of COVID-19. Once again, our seniors are the hardest hit. It was unacceptable during the first wave of COVID-19, but there is no excuse now, during the second wave. Our seniors deserve the best care possible. The Prime Minister promised to set federal health care standards.

Seniors  Mr. Speaker, the worst outbreak of COVID-19 right now is happening in Manitoba. It is happening in long-term care homes. It is happening in long-term care homes owned by the government. These homes are for profit, when we have said again and again that profit should have no place in the care of our seniors.

Health  Mr. Speaker, many Canadians are worried about flu vaccine shortages. Doctors have had to cancel appointments. Pharmacies do not have any more vaccines. Not only are we living in a global pandemic, but we are now fearing a flu epidemic. Why did the Liberal government not prepare for this?

COVID-19 Emergency Response  Mr. Speaker, from the beginning of this pandemic, we knew that small businesses would be struggling to pay their rent. As necessary lockdowns happened, small businesses were worried about how they were going to pay their commercial rent. Instead of putting in place a program to help these small businesses, the Liberal government put in place a program that helped Liberal insiders instead.

Health  Mr. Speaker, first I would like to express my condolences to the families of the victims of the attack that took place in Quebec City. Many people have raised the issue of mental health services. There are not enough mental health services, especially in this pandemic. Will the Prime Minister increase funding for mental health services?

COVID-19 Emergency Response  Mr. Speaker, we have to take in these numbers. There are 10,000 Canadians who have died because of COVID-19, and 80% of them have been in long-term care homes. What is even more staggering is how clear the evidence is that the worst conditions were found in for-profit long-term care homes.

COVID-19 Emergency Response  Mr. Speaker, more than 10,000 people have died as a result of COVID-19, and 80% of those deaths occurred in long-term care centres. The Canadian Armed Forces had to be sent in to protect our seniors, and still the problems persist. The Prime Minister promised to work with the provinces and territories to establish national health care standards.

Health  Mr. Speaker, Stephen Harper cut health care funding. The current Prime Minister maintained those cuts. As a result, long-term care facilities did not have the resources they needed during the first wave of COVID-19 and lives were lost. Will the Prime Minister give us his word today that he will make sure they get the money they need to take care of our seniors?

Health  Mr. Speaker, now over 10,000 Canadians have lost their lives to COVID-19. One of those people is Denis Mathieu. His family sold their home so they could afford to put him in a long-term care home. He ended up losing his life on October 16. The long-term care home was owned by the federal government and is for-profit.

Child Care  Mr. Speaker, Tunney's Pasture has a day care centre in Ottawa that is not for profit. Its landlord recently increased its rent to $14,000 a month, forcing this day care to close. However, here is the clincher. Guess who the landlord is. It is the Government of Canada. It is unbelievable that the government would allow this to happen.

Pharmacare  Mr. Speaker, today I met with FTQ leaders. They reiterated their demand for fully public universal pharmacare. They said that close to one million Quebeckers do not buy the medication they need because it costs too much. Why is the Prime Minister dragging his heels instead of creating a fully public universal pharmacare program?
