Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I thank the hon. member for her question. As we know, the border has always been problematic. People who are travelling and who cross the border in their cars can be asked all kinds of questions. If someone is buying a vehicle or something, there are all kinds of criteria and rules in place.

This is a great opportunity to stand before the House to speak to the trade deal CUSMA. As members know, I am from Nova Scotia and my riding is Sackville—Preston—Chezzetcook.

Resumption of debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, I want to thank my colleague for her very interesting speech. I learned a lot about her region, which I was not very familiar with. She impressed me a great deal with her knowledge about some of the topics we discussed here today. I would like the hon. member to say a few words about our government's investments.

Resumption of debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her question, which is definitely extremely important. In my speech, I talked about the benefits families receive. That is extremely important. For example, just in my riding, Sackville—Preston—Chezzetcook, families receive $5.2 million a month, or $60 million a year.

I am a former schoolteacher, and that is what I needed to do to make sure I had the attention of all individuals in the classroom. I had to look them in the eyes to know they were there with me when I was speaking.

Resumption of debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I am glad the member brought up the Canada child benefit. When I was campaigning in my riding over the last two months, I heard a lot of really good things about the Canada child benefit. Many families are receiving the help they need to continue to support their kids.

Resumption of debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I am eager to begin work on the veterans file with the member at the veterans committee. It is extremely important that we continue doing the work we need to do to support our men and women. The member's question about seniors is very important. Our government said that it would be introducing a tax cut in the new year, as promised.

Resumption of debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to be back here in the House for the 43rd Parliament and to have an opportunity to speak to the Speech from the Throne. Between July and December, I missed being able to deliver speeches in the House, though I must say I got plenty of speech-giving opportunities during the election campaign.

Interparliamentary Delegations  Mr. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 34(1), I have the honour to present to the House, in both official languages, the report of the delegation of the Canadian branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie, concerning its participation in the Bureau Meeting and the 44th Ordinary Session of the APF, held in Quebec City, from July 5 to 10, 2018.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, those members would like us to stop and restart. They do not realize how important this economy is to our country. There is $2 billion per day in trade between our two nations. We cannot stop the 825,000 lifted out of poverty and the 300,000 kids lifted out of poverty.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, there are a couple of things I need to correct. We are not fast-tracking. This is a process that was in place, and we are moving step by step. We will not allow the Conservatives, the NDP and others to slow us down, because Canadians need this. The second thing I would tell my colleague is that he should look at the statistics.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, again, the member is getting me excited. I want to share with him that Canadians have created over one million jobs. We have the lowest unemployment rate in the history of Canada. The highest percentage of indigenous people are working in Canada today under our leadership.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, my colleague needs to understand one thing first. I did not deliver that speech because I am angry. I delivered that speech because I am passionate. The angriness is on that side of the House. We are passionate about what we are doing for Canadians. I want my colleague to remember what happened under the Conservatives.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, I stand in the House tonight, as the member of Parliament for Sackville—Preston—Chezzetcook, in Nova Scotia, excited to to speak to this important bill, yet saddened, as this will be my last speech in the House for the 42nd Parliament. I have mixed feelings. In my closing speech for the 42nd Parliament, the theme I would like to speak on is CUSMA.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, my colleague delivered an excellent speech. I just want to come back to a couple of points that he made. I have to share some of what I picked up from Jerry Dias, Unifor, who said, “There are some incredible victories in this deal, things we’ve been arguing and fighting for the last 24 years.”
