Government Response to COVID-19 Pandemic  Mr. Speaker, the member is right. The biggest failure of the government has been miscommunication from the beginning. It said to wear a mask then do not wear a mask. It said border closures did not help then they did help. We saw the Auditor General's report, about which I did not even have a chance to talk.

We heard in November, December and January that we would have eight million vaccines by the end of February.

Government Response to COVID-19 Pandemic  Mr. Speaker, I am glad that my colleague from Saanich—Gulf Islands requested this emergency debate today, but I recall being in this House in January having a similar emergency debate on the inability of the Liberal government to access and distribute vaccines, their putting of the impetus on the provinces and the potential of a third wave.

Mental Health  Mr. Speaker, the impact this pandemic has had on our mental health will far outlast this crisis. This is something we cannot ignore. I have held numerous virtual town halls in my riding with community leaders and business owners, talking about mental health and the impact on our constituents.

Agriculture  Madam Speaker, the agriculture minister pretends to support farmers, but in reality is negligent when needed most. The minister is complicit in saddling producers with the farm-killing carbon tax, voted against exempting grain drying from the carbon tax, and the Liberals are increasing this tax by 33% next week, which will further devastate Canadian agriculture.

Questions Passed as Orders for Returns  With regard to expenditures on social media influencers, including any contracts which would use social media influencers as part of a public relations campaign, since December 1, 2019: (a) what are the details of all such expenditures, including (i) vendor, (ii) amount, (iii) campaign description, (iv) date of contract, (v) name or handle of influencer; and (b) for each campaign that paid an influencer, was there a requirement to make public as part of a disclaimer the fact that the influencer was being paid by the government and, if not, why not?

Health of Animals Act  Madam Speaker, I think it is very fitting that I have the opportunity to speak to my private member's bill, Bill C-205, on the week that we celebrated Canada's Agriculture Day. It means a lot when we look at the bills that have come forward. I want to congratulate my colleague from Northumberland—Peterborough South for the passing at second reading of his private member's bill, Bill C-206, which would exempt all farm fuels from the carbon tax.

Government Appointments  Madam Speaker, yesterday, McKinsey & Company agreed to pay nearly $600 million U.S. for its role in fuelling the opioid crisis in the United States. For almost a decade that firm was led by Dominic Barton, now the Prime Minister's hand-picked ambassador to China. It was a period in which McKinsey was advising opioid companies to pay rebates for drug overdoses just to boost the sales of OxyContin.

Government Appointments  Madam Speaker, it is incredible that the Liberals are defending Dominic Barton and refusing to answer this question. Is it because McKinsey pleaded guilty to criminal charges for its role in the opioid crisis? That crisis has claimed the lives of more than 16,000 Canadians. Is it because the provinces have now filed civil suits against the opioid companies that McKinsey advised?

McKinsey is now settling dozens of lawsuits over advice it gave opioid makers on ways to boost sales of OxyContin, yet the Prime Minister saw fit to appoint Mr.

During that time, Dominic Barton was a global partner at McKinsey, a company that pleaded guilty to criminal charges, including bribing doctors and paying rebates for drug overdoses just to boost the sales of OxyContin.

Dominic Barton was a managing partner with McKinsey, which is accused of shady deals with China, destroying evidence and stoking the opioid crisis.

Government Appointments  Mr. Speaker, the Liberals cannot avoid this question. McKinsey, the company that Mr. Barton worked for, is in the process of settling lawsuits over advice it gave to drug companies to aggressively bolster OxyContin sales. In fact, the OxyContin manufacturer has pleaded guilty to criminal charges, including bribing doctors, deliberately contributing to the opioid epidemic.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, the cancellation of Keystone XL is another blow to Alberta’s energy workers and Canada’s economy, but is also a huge step backward in our fight to protect the environment. Keystone XL checked all the boxes: renewable energy to power the pipeline, check; emissions neutral, check; agreements with first nations equity partners, check.
