Finance  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the member for Kitchener Centre for his advocacy and hard work on behalf of his constituents. In 2015, Canadians elected our government to strengthen the middle class. As our first order of business, we lowered taxes for middle-class families. In 2019, we once again lowered taxes for 20 million Canadians by increasing the basic personal amount.

Natural Resources  Madam Speaker, the Trans Mountain expansion project is an investment in Canada's future. At a time when 99% of our energy exports go only to the United States, Canadians understand that more than ever we need to diversify our market. Construction on the project is under way with thousands of Canadians hard at work in Alberta and British Columbia.

Since day one, our government has been working hard to strengthen and grow the middle class. As our first order of business, we are lowering taxes for middle-class families and people working hard to join them, which means more money that can be used to do things like buy healthy food and send kids to camp.

The Middle Class  Madam Speaker, while the opposition fixates on a specific number, we are taking action. That is why, when it comes to the middle class, our record speaks for itself. In 2015, the first thing we did was to lower taxes for the middle class while asking the wealthy to pay a bit more.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, although there is growing uncertainty around the world, Canada's economy remains strong. We are focused on building an economy that works for everyone, and as a result, middle-class Canadians have more money in their pockets. We will continue to fund services that support Canadians.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, on October 21, Canadians chose to continue moving forward with an economic plan focused on investing in them and rejected a short-sighted Conservative vision of cuts and austerity. Criticizing the state of Canada's economy is not a plan. It does not help people or build resilience in communities across the country.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, since day one, our government has been working to strengthen and grow the middle class. People want an affordable place to call home. They want a good education for their kids. They want an ability to save for a secure and dignified retirement. That is who we are focused on and it is why our very first act this mandate is to lower their taxes.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, we recognize that despite a strong and growing economy, many Canadians are still having trouble making ends meet. We are firmly focused on creating more good, well-paying jobs for Canadians across the country. We know there is much more work to do and we will continue to make life more affordable and create more opportunities for middle-class Canadians.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for the question. Despite growing uncertainty around the world, Canada's economy continues to remain strong. We are focused on building an economy that works for everyone. As a result, Canadians created more than one million jobs and unemployment is at its lowest rate in 40 years.
