Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, there were a number of questions to our Minister of National Revenue in the House over the last couple weeks around this issue. She was abundantly clear, and I am actually going to quote her response. She said: Let me be clear: tax evaders can no longer hide. We take this issue very seriously, and those who choose to participate in tax schemes will face consequences for their actions.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I mentioned the Panama papers at the beginning of my speech because that was actually a trigger for the residents in my riding, to say that they are very upset to hear of any individuals or corporations not paying their fair share of taxes in Canada. Since then, on the international scene, Canada has worked very hard and very comprehensively with partners, internationally, to take coordinated action to make sure we are implementing enhanced reporting standards.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I will be sharing my time with the member for Joliette. It is a pleasure for me to rise today to speak to the House on behalf of my riding of Davenport on this opposition day motion on tax avoidance. Tax avoidance was one of the top issues that Davenport residents had written to me about a year ago.

Rouge National Urban Park Act  Madam Speaker, I am sorry that I ran out of time. I am a huge supporter of parks. I come from an inner city, so a park is my lifeline to connecting with nature and the world around us. I am very supportive of anything that would continue to support and enhance parks and connect Canadians with green space in Canada in general.

Rouge National Urban Park Act  Madam Speaker, I appreciate the hon. member's passion for parks and green spaces in Canada. As I mentioned previously, I am a huge supporter of parks and of green space. I would welcome every opportunity moving forward to look at ways to continue to enhance our green space, to continue to protect and create new park spaces in Canada, and to continue to find ways for Canadians to enjoy the beautiful natural parks that we have in this blessed country that we are lucky to call our home.

Rouge National Urban Park Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for allowing me to do so. There is only one thing I would like to add. We talk a lot about the technical things that Bill C-18 would do in terms of amending three existing statutes, but what is really heartfelt and important for me in the end is that the residents of my riding of Davenport are so excited at the prospect of Rouge National Urban Park.

Rouge National Urban Park Act  Madam Speaker, I am so pleased to speak in support of Bill C-18, an act to amend the Rouge National Urban Park Act, the Parks Canada Agency Act and the Canada National Parks Act. Parks are very important to the residents of my downtown Toronto riding of Davenport, because we are an inner city riding and green space is at a premium.

Secretary-General of the United Nations  Mr. Speaker, as of January 1, a new secretary-general, António Guterres of Portugal, took up the responsibility as head of the United Nations. The selection of Mr. Guterres as the United Nations secretary-general is a point of pride for Canada's Portuguese community, particularly in my riding of Davenport, home to the largest Portuguese community in our great nation.

Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, this vyshyvanka came right from Ukraine. It is mine and has not been traded with anyone. I cannot be a proud Ukrainian Canadian without owning my own vyshyvanka. I am very proud to have it. On the member's question, trade agreements more than just mutually benefit our respective economies.

Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, I am delighted to hear the NDP will be supporting the bill. I began my speech by saying that this agreement was more than just promoting freer trade and eliminating tariffs. I also said that it would include a number of elements that would talk about trade facilitation, competition policy, intellectual property, and government procurement.

Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, I will be splitting my time with my esteemed colleague from the beautiful Lac-Saint-Louis. I am thankful for the opportunity to speak today on the topic of the Canada-Ukraine free trade agreement and the benefits it would provide to Canadians and Ukrainians. I am proud to speak in support of this free trade agreement on behalf of the riding of Davenport.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, there are many residents in my riding of Davenport who have been waiting upwards of three years to be reunited with their spouses and children. This has led to significant economic impacts, to broken families, and to an enormous amount of stress. We know that the large backlogs and unacceptable processing times are the result of the former Conservative government's cutting of immigration levels and resources.

Canada Pension Plan  Madam Speaker, it is important to have a balance of different approaches that would help youth save for their future. It is good for them to have private vehicles to invest in for their retirement, but it is also extraordinarily beneficial and absolutely necessary for government to help youth, middle-aged Canadians, and older Canadians to save for their retirements.

Canada Pension Plan  Madam Speaker, while seniors may not immediately benefit from this enhanced CPP, I will say that when I talk to seniors, they care about their grandkids, their children, and the future of their families. They love to hear about the Canada child benefit and that we are enhancing the Canada pension plan for their kids.

Canada Pension Plan  Madam Speaker, in general, the changes to the CPP would be beneficial to all Canadians, women and men. If there are additional enhancements that need to be made, I know there are ongoing discussions between the Minister of Finance and his provincial counterparts. I do not think this is going to be the last of any supports or changes that might be made to our pension system.
