Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I am pleased to answer my colleague, although her question is not directly related to my speech. In my opinion, no one is against paying tax. I personally am not against it, since that is what allows us to have social programs and redistribute wealth. It is precisely this issue that is at stake.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, that question has nothing to do with today's topic, but I will answer anyway. If there is one area where the federal government should be taking action, it is the cost of prescription drugs. That said, it will be up to the provinces to establish their own plans. As a Quebecker and a union activist, I am proud to have fought for so many years to have that kind of plan in Quebec.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the member's question is part of a conversation we have already had. We speak regularly with FADOQ and with several retirees' associations, such as the AQDR Laval-Laurentides. In my opinion, he is mixing things up. The assistance provided by the government is a bit like interest or health care assistance.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the motion we are debating today is important, and I commend my colleague from Shefford. As she pointed out, she was already actively involved with these groups before she became our colleague, and that makes us proud. I think that seniors can once again count on her unwavering commitment to their cause.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I have a question for the hon. member. With all due respect, I take exception to her comments. She provided a definition for dignity and the word “respect” stood out to me. Dignity is also humanism. As a parliamentarian, does the hon. member not think that refusing to pass the bill, amended or not, is disrespectful of the will of a majority of the public who went before the courts to ask to make this choice with regard to their life?

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I have a question about people with disabilities or mental illness, both of which can present in many forms and to varying degrees. Some people are fully competent to request medical assistance in dying, and we need to respect their choice. The member said that we should instead be focusing on current issues that affect these people, but I think the two go hand in hand.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague and applaud his eloquent speech. One part of his speech stood out to me. My colleague said that we will continue to move forward, and I would say that we must move forward. I would even say that society is more advanced than we are in this debate today.

EI Sickness Benefits  Mr. Speaker, one year ago the House adopted a motion calling on the government to increase the special EI sickness benefits from 15 to 50 weeks. At present, people suffering from chronic diseases or workers with cancer who have paid EI premiums all their lives are falling through the cracks.

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020  Madam Speaker, I have some concerns about support for workers. I am not sure if the member is aware of the troubling figures released by the Institut de la statistique du Québec regarding job losses in certain economic sectors that are not recovering. The unemployment rate among young part-time workers is very high.

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020  Madam Speaker, based on my colleague's speech, you would think that seniors are living on another planet. Seniors plead with us at my riding office not to forget them. Seniors have been the most financially vulnerable before and during the pandemic. We cannot forget seniors, which means that we need to provide long-term, ongoing financial assistance.

Committees of the House  Madam Speaker, I thank the member for his comments. When we talk about human trafficking in Canada, we probably do not have the exact figures because it is impossible to track everything that is happening in this area. It is important to remember that 90% of victims are women, Canadian women, and that, as the member mentioned, 25% of them are under the age of 18.

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020  Mr. Speaker, I agree with some of the member's observations about the vaccines. The problem with the government is that it is always a step behind. We do not have the agreements to know about the number of vaccines. We know that we have reserved industrial quantities of them. We could give some to the rest of the world.

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020  Mr. Speaker, I would like to congratulate the hon. member on his French. It is unfortunate we do not always sit together on the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, because the rate at which I am learning English is not the same as the rate at which he is learning French.

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020  Mr. Speaker, I thank my esteemed colleague for the love she has shown for all our regions in Quebec. I know that my colleague is quite concerned about her region, which has its own specific needs and whose economy relies mostly on seasonal industries. When it comes to the government's vision and specific approaches, what would be her position and recommendations to best respond to the needs?

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020  Mr. Speaker, I thank my dear colleague. I found the content of his speech quite eloquent, particularly with regard to housing. I would like to ask him a question about that. The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, of which I am a member, just completed a study on indigenous housing.
