Government Operations committee  Every department can argue that every regulation on its own is important, but nobody thinks about the whole burden and the impact that it has on what people are going to do. The fact that almost two-thirds of small business owners

Government Operations committee  We believe they have just lowered the amount they're going to provide to small businesses from 9% to 5% and will give it to other groups for a variety of reasons. It has become a real drag for many small business owners, who are right now feeling the pinch and are not feeling that they're necessarily being considered when it comes to the carbon tax, even though they pay a lot of it. We're hoping to see some movement on that shortly.

Government Operations committee  It might take two hours to understand confusing language on a form and get an answer from a government helpline and then another two hours for your blood pressure to come down. It's no surprise that 87% of small business owners say that excessive regulation adds significant stress to their lives and that 63% would not advise their children to start a business, given the current burden of regulation in Canada.

Business of Supply  Its reach extends to every corner of the country, leaving no one insulated from its effects. From the single parent in Edson struggling to make ends meet to the small business owner in Rocky Mountain House facing increasing operational costs, the message is clear: This carbon tax increase is financially and morally wrong and one that demands immediate re-evaluation.

Business of Supply  On the other one, the cost of gas is $311.31, and the carbon tax is $452.08. For this one in particular, the small business owner told me that that amount would have been his profit. Of course, we also know that there is GST on top of the carbon tax as well, so how can that Liberal member justify this, when we have small businesses that are paying these types of bills?

Finance committee  I'd like to ask why Bill C-59 doesn't address the $82-million-a-day opportunity of the LNG market, but that's not why I'm here today. I'd like to address why this bill doesn't help small business owners, of which I am one. You see, after returning home from Alberta, I built a business with my partner within eight years. Yet, every year it gets harder to break even. I'm curious about why Bill C-59 continues the legacy of not standing with the small business community in this country.

International Trade committee  I want to share some insights from small businesses engaged in international trade on the challenges they are facing with CARM. My remarks are based on some new data we've just collected from more than 2,000 small business owners, as well as anecdotal feedback we've been getting through our phone lines. Many small businesses rely on importing goods to meet customer demand, access specialized materials or expand their product offerings.

Carbon Pricing  We hear tragic stories each and every day of people who cannot afford to heat their homes because of the crippling cost. In fact it has become a common thing for seniors, families, young people, small business owners, farmers and folks on fixed incomes to send their energy bills to me. In many cases, they highlight the cost of the carbon tax. I hear so many other stories of people who are facing the consequences of the increased price of food at the grocery store and of the impact the carbon tax has on every aspect of the cost of living.

International Trade committee  That's the biggest challenge for these small businesses. They're trying to run their business. Any small business owners in the room—or if you have friends or family who run a small business—are just trying to get through their day-to-day.... They're not customs experts. That's why I think there needs to be an opt-in model for those who want to see the benefits of CARM and serve themselves.

Science and Research committee  It's also an opportunity for faculty to understand and have a front-row view of the problems and the challenges that small business owners are having—or business owners writ large, not necessarily just small ones—and to understand the challenges they are undertaking. That's folded back into the curriculum. These aren't researchers who are separate from instructors.

Health committee  At any rate, Minister, I'll move on to a different subject, if I can. Many health practitioners, small business owners and consumers across Canada have expressed serious concerns to this committee and others that the government's proposed regulations, including labelling requirements and new fees for natural health products, will result in increased costs and reduced choice for Canadians.

Pandemic Prevention and Preparedness Act  These are our grocery store workers, police and firefighters, public transportation workers, small business owners, and social service workers. I am so proud to speak of all the commendable efforts and hard work within the Richmond Hill community in safeguarding the health and safety of Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Business of Supply  Across this country, thousands of ordinary people are going to rallies to axe the tax. Young families, seniors, veterans, small business owners and new Canadians are all showing up en masse to add their voices to the growing chorus of discontent. They cannot afford to live with a decent quality of life anymore, never mind actually get ahead, and their Liberal and NDP MPs have turned their back on them.

Business of Supply  Bob Bolton wrote, “There should be no CARBON TAX in the first place Michelle, we have all kinds of trees to look after that issue, thanks.” Meaghan Ireland Danielis said, “As a mother of three and a small business owner with a partner working full time and a part-time job myself, it's already a struggle to put food on the table and pay bills. This tax increase will raise the prices of everything yet again.

Consumer-led Banking Act  The cartel here has created a scenario in an economy where we pay the highest interest rates on credit cards. We pay the highest amounts on service fees. When I was a small business owner, I went in to do a cash deposit. I saw a $5 fee that said “CD Fee”. I asked them, “What the heck is this?” It was a cash deposit fee. A bank was charging me a $5-a-month fee to simply deposit cash into a bank account.
