Economic Action Plan 2014 Act, No. 1  We are doing the job on the environment, and we are doing it without a business-killing carbon tax. He says there will never be a carbon tax. I hope and pray that is the case. I hope and pray that the New Democrats will never be government and that the Liberals will not be back in government for some time.

Natural Resources committee  It seems somewhat ironic to me that we have my colleagues across the way, the NDP, advocating for a carbon tax, when we've also heard that this may be the thing that's actually putting our industry at risk of losing some of the benefits to Canadians, and at a disadvantage in the market when our chief competitors, the U.S. for one, do not have such a carbon tax.

Arts and Culture  As always, this government strives to promote jobs, growth and long-term prosperity. Canadians are disappointed that the anti-trade and pro-carbon tax NDP cannot say the same.

Tourism  It is a major industry, worth $84 billion. We are not like the NDP, who want to impose a $21 billion carbon tax that will harm the tourism industry. We will not do that. We will continue to support this industry.

The Environment  Since 2006, we invested significant funds in more efficient technologies, better infrastructure adaptation and cleaner energy. We have done it without a $20 billion carbon tax. We are protecting the environment. Canadians want us—

The Environment  This is a reduction equivalent to the elimination of 37 coal-fired electricity plants. We are accomplishing this without the NDP's carbon tax, which would raise the price of everything. Between 2005 and 2011, greenhouse gas emissions have decreased by 4.8%, while the economy has grown by 8.4%. Per capita emissions are at an historic low.

Economic Action Plan 2014 Act, No. 1  At the same time, the leader of the NDP continues to push risky, high-tax schemes, like the $20-billion carbon tax, that would hurt Canada's economy and kill Canadian jobs.

Employment  We have lowered taxes for businesses of all size in this country. We refuse to bring in, not only the job-killing carbon tax, but the 60% hike on EI premiums that the NDP wants to bring in to pay for the 45-day work year. That is why there is not a single small business organization in this country that is ever going to support the NDP.

Business of Supply  We hear them argue against every trade agreement that comes before the House. They are anti-trade and anti-jobs. I could go on and on about the carbon tax they want to implement and the higher corporate rate for taxes. We would not have a problem with inequality if they were ever to make government, what we would have a problem with is everyone being in the low-income area because there would be no opportunities in Canada, so there would be no opportunity for inequality.

The Environment  Our regulations for heavy-duty vehicles would reduce carbon emissions in those vehicles by up to 23%. What does the NDP have to offer? A carbon tax; a tax on everything.

The Environment  They say no to the environmental protection measures in our budget without reading it. The only thing the NDP says yes to is a $20-billion carbon tax.

The Environment  We continue to build on our record and work with the U.S. to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions internationally. We will do it without a $20-billion carbon tax.

The Environment  That is why we contributed $1.2 billion to help developing countries do their part. We achieved all of this without imposing the NDP's $20-billion carbon tax on Canadians. Thanks to our actions, carbon emissions will go down close to 130 megatonnes from what they would have been under the Liberals.

Business of Supply  However, as we frequently see, the opposition members reject our efforts to lower taxes for Canadians. They prefer that we adopt dangerous economic policies such as a carbon tax that could kill businesses, investment, and jobs and hurt Canadian families to further their own misguided agenda. We will not engage in reckless spending that would inevitably be paid for by middle-class families.
