Emergency Preparedness  Mr. Speaker, I echo what the member opposite has said. The reality is, with climate change and the impacts, we have seen unprecedented wildfires this last season, and they will continue. That is why our government designed Canada's first-ever national adaptation strategy, a whole-of-government action plan to increase the resilience of Canadian communities and respond to the impacts of climate change.

Emergency Preparedness  Mr. Speaker, before I begin, I would like to express my sorrow and sincere condolences to the family and friends of the four firefighters who lost their lives in a crash last week in northern B.C. This brings to eight the number of firefighters we have lost in Canada in the direct line of duty this wildfire season.

Trans Canada Trail Day Act  moved for leave to introduce an Act to establish Trans Canada Trail Day. Mr. Speaker, the Trans Canada Trail is the world's longest trail, stretching over 28,000 kilometres from coast to coast, and four out of five Canadians live within 30 minutes of it. The trail was officially connected on August 26, 2017, after 25 years of work by countless Canadians to make it a reality.

National Arts Day Act  moved for leave to introduce an act to establish national arts day. Madam Speaker, whereas every year across Canada provinces celebrate arts and culture during the months of September and October, and whereas Parliament wishes to recognize and celebrate Canadians' achievements in and contributions to the arts, that throughout Canada and each year, the 23rd day of September is to be known as “National Arts Day”.

Wildfires in Canada  Mr. Speaker, there have been discussions among the parties, and if you seek it, I believe you will find unanimous consent to adopt the following motion. I move: That, given that, (i) Canada has already experienced a record amount of land burned this wildfire season, (ii) tens of thousands of Canadians have had to evacuate their communities at some point over these past few months, (iii) wildfire risk is expected to remain high as we head into the summer, The House: (a) express its deepest gratitude to the firefighters and first responders across Canada for their tireless efforts to date and to come; (b) thank the many international allies who have stepped forward to help; and (c) express its strong support to everyone on the ground as they continue to protect our communities.
