International Trade  Mr. Speaker, my question is for the Minister of International Trade and is regarding the important Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement and Conservatives' concerns of our government's unequivocal support for Ukraine. They were right about one thing, that support for Ukraine on this side of the House is unequivocal.

Committees of the House  Madam Speaker, this is another sad chapter of the Conservatives' betrayal of Ukraine. Yesterday was the Day of Dignity and Freedom, the 10-year anniversary of Ukrainian people uniting to defend their right to freedom and democracy. Conservatives chose that day to betray Ukrainian Canadians, to betray the consensus that we had in the House on Ukraine and to vote against the principle of even having a trade agreement with Ukraine.

Committees of the House  Madam Speaker, the member asked what proof he has. The reality is that he was here in this room when President Zelenskyy called for the adoption of the Canada-Ukraine trade deal. He witnessed that. He knows that the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and the ambassador from Ukraine to Canada called for this.

Finance committee  We think it's a great addition. I know you'll have a lot of time to expand on your remarks with your local MP here, Peter Julian, during question time. Now we'll hear from the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, please.

International Trade committee  We have even sought a moratorium. The Canadian government must remind Health Canada that we can't rob Peter to pay Paul. SMEs in the Canadian industry, and the Quebec industry in particular, would be subject to a frontal attack that would benefit the American industry. There can be no double standards in an international free trade context.

Canadian Heritage committee  On a point of order, Madam Chair, can you clarify whether, when Ms. Tait comes before the committee next Thursday, you will be restricting questions in any way, or will members around this table be free to ask whatever questions we would like to ask the head of CBC?

Public Safety committee  Thank you, Mr. Chair. The issue here, which also came out of Breaking Barriers Together, is the concern around both external misconduct and internal misconduct. In terms of ensuring that we have an ability for employees, people who are in the service with CBSA and RCMP, who give so much to our country, that they are...ensuring that this commission is free from the potential for conflicts of interest that may arise, NDP-3 endeavours to include the following: is a member of the immediate family of a member, as defined in subsection 2(1) of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act, immediate family having the same meaning as in section 33 of the Canada Labour Standards Regulations We've already adopted a clause that makes it clear that a member of the commission can't be a member of the RCMP, but immediate family as well could potentially, I think, give rise to that conflict of interest.

Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act, 2023  Mr. Speaker, I did mention trade in the last minute of my speech. In fact, I think I mentioned it twice. During the time of Stephen Harper, our military was the best equipped it had been since the conflict in World War II. We got Globemasters. We got Chinooks. We got LAVs. We got other planes.

Canada—Newfoundland and Labrador Atlantic Accord Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I am pleased to rise in the House to talk about clean energy and Bill C-49. I have to say that the government has a very poor record when it comes to clean energy and when it comes to ensuring that Canada meets its obligations related to all the challenges associated with climate change.

Canadian Heritage committee  Thank you very much, Madam Chair. First of all, I find that Mr. Champoux always plays an important role on the committee. He raises an important issue, but, in my opinion, he misses an extremely important aspect, which is the violence of the extreme right and its repercussions in Quebec and throughout Canada.

Canadian Heritage committee  Thank you very much, Madam Chair. I will note with some irony that yesterday at another filibuster the Conservatives were provoking, this time at the public safety committee, they took exactly the opposite interpretation from what Conservatives are saying this morning. They were arguing yesterday, as you correctly interpreted, Madam Chair, that the motion from the previous meeting continued on in that meeting.

I am somewhat saddened to take part in this debate today. As our leader, the member for Burnaby South, aptly said yesterday, we offer our condolences to the family of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Online News Act  Here is what a few people had to say: “Bill C-18 will only perpetuate a market already distorted by subsidy and it will punish independence.”“If Parliament values a free press, it will not approve Bill C-18”. Who said that? It was the former CRTC commissioner, Peter Menzies. Peter Menzies went on to say: Bill C-18 is as likely to kill journalism in Canada as it is to save it.

Government Business No. 26—Amendments to the Standing Orders  Mr. Speaker, in responding to the member, as I mentioned, the NDP has the highest attendance rate in terms of virtual Parliament and the highest rate of in-person voting, or tied with the Conservatives there, and so we believe that we can do both things. The way the NDP functions, which is free advice that I will pass on to other parties, is that the whip has to agree to any virtual voting and to virtual participation, as I am back in British Columbia.
