Status of Women committee  Safe Kids Canada is part of a global movement called Safe Kids Worldwide. Our mandate is to address injuries in Canada itself, but we certainly work within the global context with our partners that have Safe Kids organizations in countries such as Germany, New Zealand, Uganda, Vietnam, Mexico, and Brazil.

Status of Women committee  I would echo the opinions that have been expressed and add my support to Dr. Snowdon's comments about involving those who are going to be impacted by any of the policy outcomes.

Status of Women committee  Thank you very much. Good afternoon, and thank you for the invitation to speak to the House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women. Health committee  Yes and no. On the second part of your question, how parents can look around their own homes to see if things are safe, we recommend that parents get down at the level of the child and see the environment from their world perspective. Health committee  Yes. As I said, we've been working with Health Canada and the federal government since about 2003—Safe Kids Canada has, not me personally. The organization has a good working relationship with Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada around injury prevention issues. We were involved with the consultation on legislative renewal, as well as with the two different bills that have come before this.

Health committee  Thank you. Safe Kids Canada is the national injury prevention program of Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children, or SickKids, as it's known. As a knowledge broker, Safe Kids builds bridges between researchers, practitioners, policy-makers, and the public so that activities, messaging, and tools can be based on the best evidence available and make the best use of scarce resources.
