Royal Canadian Mounted Police  Mr. Speaker, it is a pleasure, as always, to respond to a question from my hon. colleague. Our government takes the threat posed by money laundering and organized crime to Canada's national security and to the integrity of our financial sector very seriously. We are taking action to combat this threat by enhancing the RCMP's investigative and intelligence capabilities, both in Canada and abroad, and our financial intelligence unit further helps protect Canadians and our financial system.

Expungement of Certain Cannabis-related Convictions Act  Madam Speaker, it is a pleasure to rise today to speak to Bill C-415, an act to establish a procedure for expunging certain cannabis-related convictions. First, I would like to thank the member for Victoria for his hard work and strong advocacy on this issue. I know he has spoken numerous times with the Minister of Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction about this issue.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, every time the Conservatives and my hon. colleague try to convince Canadians that a tweet is the reason why people are arriving at our borders, they are questioning Canadians' intelligence. Like every other country, Canada is seeing an increase in migrants. Canadians are proud that we have one of the best systems in the world for protecting our borders and ensuring that every asylum seeker has access to a fair and transparent system.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, once again, every time the Conservatives try to convince Canadians that, because of a tweet, we have migrants coming to our borders, it questions their intelligence. The one thing I will say is that they are very quick to forget their own record. In fact, 230,000 asylum seekers came into Canada under their watch.

Marine Transportation  Mr. Speaker, the safety and security across all modes of transportation is our government's priority and the safe crewing of Canadian vessels is a key part of that work. A Canadian vessel's minimum crewing complement and its qualifications are determined by Transport Canada marine safety and security officials.

Marine Transportation  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for her passion and commitment to this issue. I want to reiterate some key facts. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, I want to reiterate that Canada has a strong working relationship with our U.S. colleagues and we continue to collaborate closely on border issues. The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act requires the continual review of all countries designated as a safe third country to ensure that the conditions that led to this designation in the first place as a safe third country continue to be met.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, I appreciate this opportunity to respond to the question from the member for Vancouver East in more detail. As we know, the safe third country agreement is a treaty that was established with the United States in 2004. Under this agreement, Canada and the United States are working together to ensure the orderly handling of refugee claims.

Carbon Pricing  Mr. Speaker, the reality is that not taking action on climate change comes with significant consequences that my hon. colleague refuses to mention. For example, more frequent extreme weather events are already taking hard-earned money out of the pockets of Canadians across the country.

Carbon Pricing  Mr. Speaker, in response to my hon. colleague's remarks, I have to say that of course our government cares about the cost of living for Canadians, and that is why the Government of Canada has a serious, credible plan with low-cost measures to make sure we tackle climate change head-on.

Public Safety  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague from Mississauga—Streetsville for his tireless advocacy on this issue. The safety and security of Canadians are top priorities for our government, and today we announced an investment of $86 million to help stem the flow of illegal firearms into Canada and provide necessary equipment and technology to both the CBSA and the RCMP.

Border Security  Madam Speaker, I would say that incompetence is cutting $400 million from border services and thinking it would not affect results. I must inform my hon. colleague that we have invested $173 million to ensure that we have the resources in place to get the job done right. In August and September, the numbers were down compared to last year's figures.

Border Security  Madam Speaker, here are the facts. We invested $173 million to better manage the situation. Over $7 million of that money is in place to ensure that failed asylum claimants leave Canada. We are managing the situation properly. That is what Canadians expect from us, and that is exactly what we are doing.

Border Security  Mr. Speaker, unlike the previous government, which cut $400 million, we have invested $173 million. Some of that money will be used to ensure that we are better equipped to manage the situation. It will also ensure that unsuccessful asylum seekers are sent back to their own countries.

Border Security  Mr. Speaker, yes, we are ready to do that. We are ready because we made investments after the $400 million in cuts made by the previous Stephen Harper government. Yes, we are able to do that, because we have made investments. The people working hard at the border to protect us and deal with asylum claims and irregular migrants are better equipped do their work because of the investments that we have made.
