Transport committee  I just want to ask Mr. Roberts a question. You talked about it at the beginning of your presentation. You really focused on driver training, driver competence as a big factor in terms of how you're maintaining your safety record. You talked about how your buses travel over long stretches at high speeds, particularly in Newfoundland and Labrador, with some of the winter weather conditions and so on.

Transport committee  Thank you, gentlemen, for being here today, Jason by video, and Scott. Scott, I know your busing system; you've been transporting school children to events across the province. From your perspective, what are the challenges you would see in requiring all school buses, or any buses, to have seat belts for the children you transport?

Transport committee  Okay, thank you. When it comes to bus safety, you see other jurisdictions in this report. It referenced the investigation. Do you know what other countries do when it comes to things like seat belts on buses or other safety measures to ensure that people survive bus crashes? Have you done much research on that?

Transport committee  When is the timeline for the task force to complete its work?

Transport committee  Has there been a reduction in fatalities as a result of these efforts?

Transport committee  In 2020, it will be mandatory for new coach buses to have seat belts. Why have school buses been left out of this new requirement? I know you've answered that question a number of times with different questioners, so just a short answer would be fine.

Transport committee  I realize all the variations of that. Back in Nova Scotia, my grandson was involved with a school bus partially leaving the highway because of freezing rain conditions. He had quite a scare, actually.

Transport committee  He made reference to the fact that there are no seat belts on school buses, but he's always strapped in when he's in other vehicles. Thank you, Madam Chair.

First of all, I'll reference the documentary I watched on the The Fifth Estate about a study conducted by various groups that talked about how seat belts could make children safer on school buses when it comes to certain types of crashes.

Given the different safety requirements for vehicles of different types and weight classes, as we've referenced already, to what extent, if any, do different types of buses, such as coaches, transit buses or school buses, represent unique safety issues that should be addressed individually rather than through more general regulations?
