Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, I want to assure the member for Winnipeg North, since we are flying out of Ottawa at almost the same time today, that I have looked online and his flight to Winnipeg is on time. I was hoping that would be his question. I was not quoting statistics earlier, I was quoting facts.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, I do not know why this is the top priority for the government. The election was October 21. When Britain had its election, Boris Johnson recalled parliament within six days. I can see, with the change in government from Conservative to Liberal like in 2015, it takes two months to recall Parliament.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, I am pleased to rise to join the debate on Bill C-3 today. I imagine all the masses sitting at home huddled in front of their TVs watching this on CPAC are quite surprised to see every party stand up and support the bill. I am pleased to support it in general as well.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, I want to point out that the member is the very first Korean-born Canadian member of Parliament to ever serve in this House. I congratulate her. It is also remarkable timing that she is giving her maiden speech the very week that we heard of her Liberal Party predecessor's massive number of breaches of the code of ethics continuing with the party.

Employment Insurance  Madam Speaker, with the House's permission of course, I would like to table documents from Public Accounts that actually show that the Liberal government slashed $300 million from CBSA, unlike what the parliamentary secretary said, further showing that it cut 400 full-time equivalents from CBSA.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Madam Speaker, my colleague ended his speech with a comment about no one in his constituency having asked about Bill C-3. One of the problems we have with the bill is that no one in the government has asked the workers in CBSA about Bill C-3. Maybe what they should have asked is a follow-up on the employee survey, where 63%, almost two out of every three workers in CBSA, said senior management was not to be trusted.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act  Mr. Speaker, I would like to encourage my colleagues across the way to learn how to read the public accounts, because if they did they would see that in the last year the Conservatives were in power, the accounts hit a high of almost $1.8 billion in spending. They then dropped about $300 million in subsequent years, under the Liberals.

Public Services and Procurement  Mr. Speaker, sometimes the government gets a taste of its own medicine when dealing with government red tape. From papers tabled by the current government, we have learned that completion of a simple project to build needed jetties at CFB Esquimalt has been delayed for four years because of new government regulations.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, there was $8 million for a temporary hockey rink, $56,000 more for Jet Skis and meals for the Prime Minister's billionaire island vacation and $1.5 million for Liberal ministers' office renovations. Now the Liberals have wasted almost $2 million more on their UN Security Council seat bid, with a third of that going to promotional items.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I want to read right from the government's departmental report, signed off by former public safety minister Ralph Goodale. In 2015-16, the overlap year between the Conservatives and the Liberals, the rate of convictions on prisoners out on supervision for offences resulting in death, so people out on parole who murder someone, for every thousand it was 0.48.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I will address the member's first comment. We can never criticize how the NDP does in power, because it has never been in power and never will be in power. I agree with the member 100%. I am sure the member across the way does not see the victim as a sex worker. I am sure, like me, he sees that person as an innocent woman who did nothing wrong except be killed because of the failures of the Parole Board.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I agree with my colleague's sentiment. This has to be an open and transparent review. We know full well that in an internal review the government is going to scapegoat the parole officer who was dealing with this, throw him under the bus and give a free pass to its patronage appointments to the Parole Board.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I will be sharing my time with the iconic member for Cariboo—Prince George. This is my first time rising in debate in the 43rd Parliament, so I would like to take a couple of moments to thank the residents of Edmonton West for honouring me with re-election. I am very proud to say that, according to the Library of Parliament, last election we received the most votes ever cast in a federal or provincial election within the city of Edmonton going back to Confederation.

Fisheries and Oceans  Mr. Speaker, I have a point of order arising out of question period. I would like to comment on the Minister of Veterans Affairs's comments about cuts in the previous government. With the permission of the House, I would like to table a report from the Library of Parliament, showing that the Liberal government actually slashed 14% of full-time equivalents from Veterans Affairs since coming to power.

Freedom of the Press  Mr. Speaker, the Liberal government likes to pat itself on the back for openness and transparency, but when we look a bit closer at the man behind the curtain, we see clearly how Orwellian its plans are. Rather than fixing the problems with the CRTC, in typical Liberal fashion the government is planning on piling more rules and taxes on the backs of the private sector, the creative industry as a whole and of course the taxpayer.
