Viola Desmond  Mr. Speaker, this week, the Bank of Canada rolled out the new $10 banknote featuring Canadian civil rights icon Viola Desmond. Ms. Desmond was arrested and jailed in 1946 for refusing to move to a black-only area of a racially segregated theatre in Nova Scotia. This act of defiance predates Rosa Parks' refusal to move to the back of the bus in Montgomery, Alabama, by nine years.

United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act  Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to rise today to once again speak to Bill C-262. My friend elaborated on the reasons we need Bill C-262 passed here today. It is probably the most important human rights document we will debate in this Parliament. We almost have a consensus among Canadians that this is an important issue and something we need to embrace, but one party has not fully embraced it, and it would appear that it is not going to support this legislation.
