Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I would first like to extend my regards to Pierre Bibeau and to all the others. The two emotions that stand out the most for me right now are outrage and anger. This was a significant moment in history. It was significant, and a deliberate choice was made. When the prime minister of the day said, “Just watch me”, this led to beds, families and homes in Quebec being taken hostage by a situation, without cause or justification.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank the member for her question. There have been many apologies. In some cases, they have been made for the right reasons; in others, they have been made for questionable reasons. Fifty years later, we can say that the October crisis was a catastrophe. For the 97 people affected, receiving an apology would mean that today we recognize that their fundamental rights were violated without cause and out of authoritarianism.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, first, we recognize the position taken by the NDP leader at that time. I believe we have done that. We would like the NDP to support this motion. What did it destroy? It destroyed the most legitimate aspirations of the people who were basically advocating for freedom, rights and democracy.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I am participating remotely, but I heard the member get some enthusiastic and justly deserved applause. I too applaud him for sharing his story. The Bloc Québécois will support this bill. It is about basic dignity and fairness for the entire LGBTQ2 community. I do have a question for my colleague, though.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I commend my colleague on her intervention. In the last question my colleague was asked, there was talk of trying to understand the amendment and we were told that this could have been done at the Standing Committee on Health. To me the motion has a lot of merit, as exhaustive as it may be, as some colleagues have said.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the member gave a speech, much like his colleague before him, and for 20 minutes we heard him argue extensively about what is wrong with the motion. What does he want, then? Basically, they say it is bad and that is why they will vote against it, but what is it that they want?

Multiple Sclerosis  Mr. Speaker, today, I would like to draw attention to the situation of people suffering from multiple sclerosis. Two of my constituents, Mr. Beauséjour and Mr. Lanctôt, taught me about the daily reality of those with this disease, which sometimes prevents them from holding down a job.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, tomorrow is October 21, and I do not need to remind my colleagues what happened on that date last year. I simply want to point out that it has been one year since the election and the government has yet to present a budget. We trusted the government with the extraordinary spending, since there were extraordinary circumstances.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I should preface my remarks by saying that I feel like the Liberals are ready to trigger an election. When I hear the list of all the programs and all the achievements, it sounds like an election speech. On top of that, Liberal Party financing is guaranteed by the wage subsidy, let's not forget.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I have a related question. It is my understanding that, essentially, the member will vote against the bill for considerations that have more to do with religion and faith than with the bill before us. When we talk about the right to life, and tell people that we have values, that dignity is intrinsic and that life is precious, does Bill C-7 not align with all that even though it is not perfect?

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, my Liberal colleague's position is quite fair. We in the Bloc Québécois also agree that those whose sole medical condition is a mental illness should not be included in this bill. This is such a sensitive matter, I think it is important to send a clear message that we are capable of moving forward in our reflection.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Madam Speaker, my question is simple. With all due respect, in the umpteenth version of the throne speech, the member said that, if we want sovereignty, we need to be independent. I completely agree with him. That is why Quebec wants to be fully independent as a nation. I therefore want to ask a question about the vision, or lack thereof, in this throne speech when it comes to national standards for long-term care facilities.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, my question relates to some of the member's comments on the throne speech. He talked about numerous solutions introduced to transition from the CERB to a more flexible employment insurance system or to the three new economic recovery measures. He and I both know that these measures are temporary because they are only going to last a year.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I have a question for the hon. member, who is a doctor by training, if I am not mistaken. She knows that when we talk about health and a pandemic or an epidemic, the question is how can we help ourselves. Does she not believe that prevention is just about the only way we can have lasting, sustainable solutions?
