Multiple Sclerosis  Chair, I want to refer to some testimony that we heard in committee. The question was asked to Dr. Sandy MacDonald, who had treated six patients: Have there been any complications? And what have you learned from the treatment that you have engaged in so far? The response was: There have been no complications to treatment.

Fisheries committee  Yes, I know. I'm going to be very quick. With regard to the biomass projections, we've had a wonderful set of scientists. It started when we brought the trawl survey over in 1996-1997 with Mikio Moriyasu and the gulf-based snow crab assessment unit. In about 2002 or 2003 the Scotia-Fundy region took over its own science assessment with Dr.

Fisheries committee  This is something that's never been brought up in any of these discussions--and I think Ron MacDonald was highlighting that. His fear, as part of the sablefish organization, was that farmed sablefish will be called the same thing as wild sablefish. We haven't had a discussion. At any rate, farmed salmon are called Atlantic salmon.

Fisheries committee  No, I don't think so. We don't get a lot of information from the farms. We don't know where they file their information. We would like a registry. We asked for a registry from the provincial government. What I will tell you, Mr. Kamp, is the fish doesn't look the same. The fish is not as dense.

Fisheries committee  Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman and members of the committee. It is a real pleasure for me to be here to talk a little bit about my experience as president of Wild Canadian Sablefish and executive director of the Canadian Sablefish Association, and about the issue that has seized the committee, which is aquaculture and aquaculture policy.

Procedure and House Affairs committee  I hope the committee has received the article I wrote last year, “The Constitutionality of Prorogation”. I sent it ahead for translation. I'm happy to speak to that article in questions or to my comments in this brief statement. I should also say that I've just completed teaching my constitutional law course at the University of Alberta, and the one promise my students extracted from me before the exam was to have no questions on prorogation.

Multiple Sclerosis  She has also led the charge for income security and supportive housing for people affected by MS. I would also like to pay tribute to renowned vascular surgeon, Dr. Sandy Macdonald, a Barrie resident who has invested his own time and funds toward new and emerging treatments of MS. The dedication of the MS Society and its local chapter is an example of Canadian generosity, and I want to pay tribute to my constituents.

Industry committee  In announcing the government's intentions in the House of Commons in 1987, the then Minister of Communications, Flora MacDonald, said that they were necessary to “ensure...national sovereignty” over this vital sector of the Canadian economy and for reasons of “national...security” and “economic, social, and cultural well-being”.

Subcommittee on the Automotive Industry in Canada committee  Right. I don't mean to interrupt, Dr. Stanford; I understand and I appreciate your efforts to control legacy costs. There are, however, existing costs now in terms of that difficult topic of pensions and other aspects of compensation in the overall auto sector. To go back to my question, we have legacy costs per car produced in this country.

National Philanthropy Day Act  In my own community, there are people who support causes: the Risleys, the Rowes, the O'Regans, the Fountains, the Goldblooms, the Sobeys, the Joudreys, the Keatings, the McPhees, the Smithers, the Conrads, the MacDonalds, the Spatzs, the Flemings, the Edwards, and the Dennis family. I want to mention one significant act of philanthropy in our community. Graham Dennis is the long-time publisher of the Halifax Chronicle Herald, one of Canada's few independently owned newspapers.

Status of Women committee  Davidson for being absolutely an able chair and I wanted to thank you for coming. There is one thing, though. I noticed that Dr. MacDonald talked about a report, and Dr. Lightman talked about some data, and some of you discussed information. We would be pleased if you would send that information along to the clerk so that we can pass it on to the committee, and the committee can therefore read it and absorb it themselves.
