Post-Secondary Education  Mr. Speaker, during the first wave of COVID-19, the government decided to temporarily not profit off struggling students and froze student loan repayments and interest. Just last week, the Liberals unanimously supported the NDP motion to go a step further and put a moratorium on student loan repayments until May 31, 2021.

Canadian Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act  Madam Speaker, this bill references the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples; however, the Liberal government has not actually enforced the UN declaration into law. Will the Liberals put action behind their words? They are talking a good game about doing that.

Post-secondary Education  Mr. Speaker, we are in the middle of the COVID-19 second wave. Young people across the country are once again feeling the brunt of its economic impacts. New Democrats successfully passed a motion this week calling on the government to re-establish a moratorium on interest on student loans.

Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2020  Madam Speaker, I heard something from an organization a few years ago. It was talking about providing individuals with the ability to give their consent for the use of their information and allowing for companies to compensate them directly. Considering this has been out there for quite a while, I wonder why the government did not put it forward in the legislation and what the member would think about that as an amendment.

Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2020  Madam Speaker, I know that the member across the way has lots of concerns with this legislation. I certainly do. They are about the creation of a whole bunch of new categories for data exemption from those privacy protections. I am a bit concerned about that. I am wondering if she could address the concerns that this giveaway to big tech giants, which the Liberals have been accused of being far too close to, are also worrying.

Post-Secondary Education  Mr. Speaker, Abacus Data published a report this morning. It found that young people in Canada are among the hardest hit by COVID-19 and they must make fundamental shifts in their education, employment and finances. Today, the Prime Minister reiterated the importance of young people taking this virus seriously.

Veterans Affairs  Mr. Speaker, the Royal Canadian Air Force Association, 427 Wing, is an incredible resource for veterans in London. It has two museums and resides in a historical canteen from the 1940s. This group has fought hard to keep the wing from shutting down forever because of COVID-19.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, in terms of my response regarding what $37 billion looks like, it is what we have personally. It is that wealth that only a few have. Those few have been consistently protected by the Liberal government, by the former government and all the governments before that.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I appreciate the passion the member brings to this, and I really appreciate his support on this motion. This is a start. This is one of the many things we want to do, to try and get at that income disparity and that disproportionate wealth distribution I was talking about before.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I am proud to be splitting my time tonight with the member for Cowichan—Malahat—Langford. Just over a year ago, I was elected to the House. I earned the trust of the people of London—Fanshawe to represent them. Over that campaign and every single day, I heard from them.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I really appreciated hearing my hon. colleague. She did a fantastic job of outlining what is at stake here for people. As the NDP status of women critic, I am constantly hearing about the struggles of women and how this pandemic has hurt women, in particular. We hear about the amount of work they do that is unpaid and how they struggle, often as single mothers, just trying to keep food on the table and roofs over their families' heads.

Women and Gender Equality  Mr. Speaker, Liberals love their pretty words when it comes to gender equality, but women are still waiting. Women are waiting for affordable child care. Women are waiting for equal pay. Canadian women still make 32% less than men, and our work should not come at a discount. After decades of inaction, the Liberals finally moved on pay equity, but today's PBO report shows that the Liberals are dragging their feet and the law is not being enforced.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, I picked up a bit on the member for Kenora's comment about reconciliation being used as a buzzword and the rhetoric of what “reconciliation” is really supposed to mean for a nation-to-nation relationship. While I agree this bill is important, we have discussed today that this is slow progress.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, I know there has also been a lot of talk today about boil water advisories. Oneida Nation of the Thames, which is not exactly in my riding, but is very close to it and is certainly an incredible member of our overall community, has been under a boil water advisory since September 2019.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, one of the issues we heard about today and that is certainly talked about from this side of the House is the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The government, again, has talked about its relationship-to-relationship importance but has shelved this report.
