Petitions  Madam Speaker, I have two petitions to present today, one of which calls for an end to the abhorrent practice of the international trafficking of human organs. Specifically it calls for a legal prohibition on Canadians travelling abroad to acquire such organs.

Petitions  Madam Speaker, the second petition I would like to enter into the record formally calls upon Canada to recognize the Uighur genocide that is going on in China and also to use the Magnitsky act to bring the officials responsible to account.

Bills of Exchange Act  Madam Speaker, I would first like to congratulate the member on a great honour to her mother. I wonder what advice the member would say her mother might have to newcomers, who are maybe coming from very difficult situations, so they can make it just like her mother did.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I feel like I have gone back in time a little between talking about the dramatic events in Quebec and it being the anniversary of the national energy program. In both these instances, we saw an example of potential federal government overreach. As important as any apology, my mother always told me, are the actions one takes next.

Suicide  Mr. Speaker, this week when a close friend of mine lost a family member, I experienced the stinging pain of suicide. Unfortunately, suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth and young adults. Sixty per cent of suicidal youth reported wanting to speak to someone, but not knowing where to turn.

COVID-19 Emergency Response  Mr. Speaker, many organizations in Canada are suffering through the pandemic. Among them are the legions. The legions are struggling through it and part of the reason, according to their Dominion Command, is because legions do not often have to file tax returns because they are non-profits, which makes them ineligible for pandemic relief.

Judges Act  Madam Speaker, I will use this as an opportunity to finish off my comments with respect to the member for Calgary Nose Hill. She talked about systemic misogyny with comments that, once again, should make us all feel uncomfortable as Canadians, and all the men in the House and elsewhere feel a little bit uncomfortable, which will move our country to be better.

Judges Act  Madam Speaker, no. Obviously, the government has a lot of opportunity to talk about this and we are pleased to talk about this business. We thank the government for bringing it forward.

Judges Act  Madam Speaker, that was a terrific question from the hon. member, indeed. This discussion in the House of Commons is what separates us from totalitarian regimes. It is what makes our government better than communist regimes. Debate is of critical importance. In fact, yesterday I was a witness to some of the most moving interventions I have ever seen in this House or outside.

Judges Act  Madam Speaker, I would like to start by thanking everyone for their great interventions in this conversation that we have had. It is more of an apt description to call it a conversation as opposed to a debate. I would also like to take this opportunity to say it was great to hear the words of the parliamentary secretary.

Judges Act  Madam Speaker, while we are talking about debating, I wonder if the member would like to comment on when the member for Winnipeg North, in February 2014, accused the Harper government of being somewhat shameful for not fully debating issues. I wonder if the member would like to comment on that.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, of course, government programs are important and our treasured social safety net is important, so too though are our businesses, our private sector, our workers, our farmers and our front-line workers. These are the people who are going out every day working to produce the income that is needed for the government to have the money it needs to pay down the debt.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I have the opportunity to live in the great riding of Northumberland—Peterborough South, and I have talked to my constituents as much as I can during COVID days. What they tell me, whether they are farmers, workers or single moms, is that they cannot afford life to be more expensive.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I thank the member for the question. It is an important question and greatly appreciated. First of all, I would go back and say there were certain ways to make this less expensive, such as putting that wage subsidy in place quicker, which would have gotten our economy back on track.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I will join the great traditions of Conservatives across this land who have attempted to unwind the demagoguery from the member for Winnipeg North. I did actually listen to the Deputy Prime Minister when she talked about it. When we define “labour force”, which is a number that she chose, that number includes the unemployed.
