Post-Secondary Education  Mr. Speaker, when the government only temporarily suspended student loan payments at the start of the pandemic, all pre-authorized payments were cancelled without any notice. This, in turn, caused thousands of loan payments to be marked as past due when payments resumed in October, resulting in unfair additional charges for interest in an already difficult time for Canadians.

Fanshawe College's Centre for Research and Innovation  Madam Speaker, I rise today to highlight the incredible work being done in my riding by Fanshawe College's Centre for Research and Innovation. Dr. Abdulla Mahboob and his team have worked on a research project that involves custom-made peptide inhibitors that can halt the spread of the coronavirus within infected patients.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of order. During the last vote, we heard a lot of qualifiers and they need to be yes or no. I would like a ruling on whether that is allowed and can continue. Clearly, members are not allowed to make speeches or anything else, other than to say yes or no.

Child Care  Mr. Speaker, when the folks of Garderie Tunney's Daycare contacted their local Liberal MP for Ottawa Centre to ask for help to keep their doors open, she suggested that they should apply for a rental subsidy. The landlord for this day care centre is the federal government. It almost doubled the rent to $14,000 per month.

COVID-19 Emergency Response  Mr. Speaker, my constituent Katlyn Top was about half way through her maternity leave when COVID-19 hit. When she returned to work as a server in August, her hours were cut. She cannot place her daughter in child care, and she has been denied financial assistance because Katlyn did not have a spot before the pandemic.

Child Care  Mr. Speaker, the Liberals promised universal, affordable, public child care 27 years ago, five years ago, one year ago and two weeks ago, but they never delivered. If only the Liberals had been government over those years; oh wait, they were. Like other child care centres, the Garderie Tunney's Daycare in Ottawa has had to close suddenly.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the Liberals claim that they are filibustering in the finance and ethics committees to maintain focus on the government's response to COVID-19, yet in the health committee they are filibustering to prevent a study of the government's response to COVID-19. Could the member explain that contradiction?

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, one of the key points of the motion is to have discussions and investigations into the global public health intelligence network. It is interesting to me that the Liberals do not want to look into some of the facts, considering a lot of the resources were allocated away from that intelligence network.

Committees of the House  Mr. Speaker, there have been discussions among the parties and if you seek it, you would find unanimous consent for the following motion. I move: That the membership of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs be amended as follows: Mr. Daniel Blaikie, Elmwood—Transcona, for Ms.

Post-Secondary Education  Mr. Speaker, the Liberals are hoping their scandal will go away quickly. Instead, it is the help they promised for students that has disappeared. They promised close to a billion dollars to help students pay for their tuition fees, rent and groceries, but after seven months of broken promises and scandal, students have gotten nothing.

Judges Act  Madam Speaker, I was interested to hear the member across the way talk about all the things the Harper government did, but she failed to mention the fact that it eliminated the phrase “gender equality” from the Status of Women. It closed 12 of the 16 Status of Women offices. It reallocated funding from organizations that supported advocacy for women's human rights.

Post-Secondary Education  Mr. Speaker, almost $1 billion in promised support for young people is missing because of the Liberals' WE scandal. Today La Presse had a story about students who are struggling during the pandemic and worried about their future. They are graduating. They want to work but many will end up in precarious jobs, and they are drowning in debt.

Child Care  Mr. Speaker, women-led businesses are a key driver of our economy in London and across Canada, and women are more likely to own newer and smaller businesses. From a lack of universal child care, to failing small business supports like the commercial rent assistance program, for all their talk about feminism the Liberals are not actually getting anything done.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, the member spoke about small business at the end of his speech. I know that small business owners in my riding of London—Fanshawe have heard the Liberal rhetoric. They have heard how Liberals are putting Canadians first and that they have their backs. So many of those small businesses and their owners barely made it through the first wave, and they are terrified about what the second wave will have in store for them.

Resumption of Debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I specifically want to ask the member about the Canada Water Agency. This is an exciting undertaking. I am really quite excited to hear about this and follow its progress. I have a private member's bill, the national strategy for fresh water, Bill C-245. I wondered if the member and his government have any plans to support this bill, as it looks to do a lot of the same things as he was talking about regarding the Canada Water Agency.
