Health of Animals Act  Mr. Speaker, my colleague was very passionate and very meaningful in his words. I know this matters a lot not only to his constituents but to many others. I have three quick questions. I know he will not be able to necessarily answer them all, but I want to put them on the record.

Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act  Mr. Speaker, it is always a privilege to bring greetings on behalf of the great people of Kings—Hants, even if it is virtually, but that is the world we are living in. I would like to thank the member opposite for bringing forward this legislation and giving me the opportunity to speak on the importance of supply management and what it means to rural communities across the country.

Canadian Heritage  Madam Speaker, our broadcasting system is out of step with the digital era and disadvantages Canadian broadcasters. That is why our government has introduced a bill to ensure that online broadcasters contribute their fair share to support Canadian music and stories. Can the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Canadian Heritage tell the House how this bill will benefit all Canadians from coast to coast to coast?

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, speaking as the member for Kings—Hants and not necessarily on behalf of the government, as I am not part of the Privy Council, I certainly think there is merit to increasing the amount of access for those who do not have access to prescription drugs. Creating a national formulary is also important.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I was not in the last Parliament when that decision was made. I was referencing 2015. The member is trying to shoehorn some of the tax cuts that were made without really giving any credence to the other policies that our government has introduced over the last five years, and even in the 12 and a half months that I have been a member of Parliament, aimed at supporting individuals.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, there is no doubt that improving pharmacare and working with the provinces and territories is something I heard on doorsteps last October, and have continued to hear, from my constituents. I was pleased to see it in the Speech from the Throne. Obviously there are a lot of competing priorities right now for the government as a result of COVID-19, but I hope we will see it again.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I will be sharing my time with the member for Gatineau this evening. It is a privilege to be here in the House, albeit virtually, to speak to this particular motion that has been raised by the member for New Westminster—Burnaby. I will give a little context to my colleagues of how I come to see this issue, and I will get into some of the specific text of the motion in a moment.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, the member opposite certainly raised a number of very interesting points. One thing I want to key in on is that he talked about Liberal and Conservative policies having allowed for the movement of capital, and I assume he means the movement of global capital. He mentioned the fact that his father was a professor of economics and had worked in the mining industry, which I know is so important in the Timmins area.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, there has been a lot of talk in the House comparing this to World War II and some of the measures that the government put in place at that time. It was a different time, when the economy was booming. There were industries that were certainly benefiting from massive government investment, but this is a time when government is putting out lots of money to try to stabilize the situation.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I would agree with the parliamentary secretary. The principles and the theory behind the motion are not the problem. The problem is the practicality. Looking at the motion, I am going to ask the member two or three questions quickly, and maybe she can decide which ones she wants to answer.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, what the member is getting at is we can all agree that it is a good thing to try to support individuals by having those with the most resources distribute their wealth, but as I read the motion, it is full of ambiguity. I want to point some things out and see if maybe he can find out about them.

4-H Canada  Mr. Speaker, today I am pleased to rise virtually in the House to celebrate “Show Your 4-H Colours” day, alongside 4-H members, alumni and friends who are wearing green today in support of the good work 4-H Canada does in our communities. While I could not find a great green tie, I do have my Annapolis Valley tartan scarf and my white shirt to celebrate along with them.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, I agree with the member on the points that the government needs to do more in the days ahead. We know reconciliation is a pathway and we need to continue that work. She highlighted the moderate livelihood in Nova Scotia. I am the member of Parliament from Nova Scotia and my colleague is from British Columbia.

Lobster Fishery Dispute in Nova Scotia  Mr. Speaker, I do not want to prejudice the work of the minister in terms of her negotiations with Mi'kmaq communities. I know the conversations have been beneficial and positive from what I have heard from the indigenous leaders in my riding. Right now, all options are on the table on the best way to move forward.

Lobster Fishery Dispute in Nova Scotia  Mr. Speaker, I have said before in my remarks that it is important that commercial fishers have some role in trying to not only bring down the tension that we have seen, but also to be constructive with respect to partners collectively in the fishery on how we move forward. We do not want them to be isolated and it is important they have the ability to at least provide input.
