Aeronautics Act  Mr. Speaker, I am extremely pleased to speak in the House today to the bill introduced by my colleague and friend the hon. member for Jonquière. Almost everyone thinks the environment is important. In fact, the environment means as much to people as apple pie. I think everyone likes apple pie, therefore everyone likes the environment.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I really enjoyed my colleague's speech. He talked about a book that tells the story of young athletes who competed in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. As we know, today, I proposed an amendment to the Conservative motion, calling upon the IOC to move the Olympic Games if China continues its genocidal spree.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I want to acknowledge the long-standing commitment of the member for Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan to the plight of the Uighurs. The speech he just delivered conveys the passion that drives him, but it also shows how urgent the situation is, considering what is happening in Xinjiang.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I will try to reply quickly and to the best of my ability, and I will do so with the following quotation: “A politician thinks of the next election; a statesman, of the next generation”.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, it is an honour and a pleasure to work with the member for Saanich-Gulf Islands. I also want to thank her, as well as her colleague from Nanaimo—Ladysmith, for signing that letter. We can prove to this House that we are capable of working together, across party lines, on international human rights issues.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. I think this is a situation that will occur more and more often. The International Olympic Committee has an obvious problem when it comes to choosing where to hold the Olympic Games. We know that it is becoming increasingly expensive to host the Olympics and that the countries that want to host them are often those led by a tyrannical government looking to boost its image.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague from Montarville for his speech. Since he paid me a compliment, I will reciprocate by saying that his speech was powerful, eloquent and sound, and I congratulate him. I am extremely thankful to be here in the House for what may be a historic debate.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, we were just treated to quite a string of words that were meant simply to evade the question of whether the Minister of Foreign Affairs supports the motion. The minister's Liberal colleagues who sit on the Subcommittee on International Human Rights have used the term “genocide”.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, earlier, the government leader told us that he did not need the Bloc Québécois. Last week, all of the parties joined the leader of the Bloc Québécois in calling for the government to grant citizenship to Raif Badawi. All of the parties, including the Liberals, asked the Minister of Immigration to use his discretionary power to make the political prisoner a citizen.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, what a frustrating response for Ensaf Haidar. The minister did not even answer the question. In 2015, when the Minister of Foreign Affairs was in the opposition, he wrote that “the eyes of the world are on Canada to see whether the government will exhaust its diplomatic channels pushing for Raif Badawi's release.”

Raif Badawi  Mr. Speaker, yesterday the House of Commons finally joined the Bloc Québécois in unanimously calling on the government to grant Canadian citizenship to Raif Badawi. Quebeckers expect all members of Parliament to keep their word, and especially the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Instruction to the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development  Madam Speaker, that is a real shame because I had a 10-minute speech prepared. Everyone thinks water is important. More people agree on that than on apple pie. I am drinking some water tonight, in fact. Everyone likes water, including my hon. colleague from Lac-Saint-Louis. He likes water so much that he wants Parliament to take time, lots of time, to study a whole bunch of freshwater issues.

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020  Mr. Speaker, Bill C‑14 is designed to make Canada-wide standards for long-term care a precondition for funding. I believe that this is also an idea from the NDP. However, the Canadian Armed Forces' report on its experience in Quebec long-term care homes last spring was clear. Many standards and rules on preventing and controlling contamination and on wearing PPE are already in place, but they failed to stop the virus.

Emancipation Day  Mr. Speaker, I listened carefully to my hon. colleague's speech. I want to congratulate him for moving this motion. I think there is consensus on this. Frankly, I was moved by the personal experiences that he shared with us. He himself has experienced racism. He obviously has a deep understanding of this cause.

Jean Duceppe  Mr. Speaker, 30 years ago yesterday, Quebec lost one of its greatest artists in Jean Duceppe. Jean Duceppe was an actor, comedian and host who left his mark on the theatre, film, television and radio worlds. He was known for his roles in My Uncle Antoine, Death of a Salesman, Charbonneau et le chef and The Plouffe Family, and was also known for the theatre company he founded and that still bears his name.
