Cancellation of Teck Frontier Mine Project  Madam Speaker, I rise on a point of order. I believe the hon. minister made a mistake by unintentionally saying that the Notley government brought forward the carbon levies targeted toward major industrial emitters in the 1990s. Obviously it was a government long before she was in power.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I am so excited my colleague said that we had blinders on with respect to our economy. He and his colleagues across the way have been bringing up numbers that just do not add up. Canada's unemployment is higher than the G7 average and higher than the U.K., Germany and Japan.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, unfortunately when we start talking about Liberal tax cuts, I do not believe any of the numbers the Liberals put forward. I have not had a conversation on what numbers are true and what numbers are not. It is very difficult for me on this side of the House. They brought forward a lot of small business tax changes two summers ago.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, although my colleague from Saskatoon—Grasswood and I are not of the same vintage, when I was in elementary school, for the first couple of years dentists would come in and check our teeth. However, because the provincial government was so far in debt, those programs were taken away.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I will be splitting my time with the hon. member for Calgary Shepard. I look forward to his comments. I have listened intently to the speeches throughout the day in this esteemed chamber. I think everyone is very passionate about the motion brought forward by our hon.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I listened with interest to the speech of my hon. colleague from Timmins—James Bay and appreciate some of his comments. He mentioned the middle class quite often in his speech and commented on the Minister of Middle Class Prosperity. He said there is not really a definition from our Liberal colleagues on what the middle class is.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, I have been sitting in my chair here for the last couple of hours listening to the speeches delivered by members opposite, expressing their commitment to truth and reconciliation and to moving forward with positive relationships with our indigenous communities. I appreciate the strong words they have had.

Government Priorities  Mr. Speaker, we have almost 100 ships waiting to be loaded, a backup of 20,000 grain cars costing farmers more than $300 million. Where is the agriculture minister? She is away in Washington at a forum on agriculture outlook. I can already tell the ag minister what that outlook for Canadian agriculture producers is.

Mining Industry  Mr. Speaker, over 100,000 men and women in Alberta and Saskatchewan remain out of work. This crisis was created by the government's malicious indifference towards the energy sector. However, there is hope on the horizon, in the name of a $20-billion mining project that would see 7,000 direct jobs created and countless more in spinoff and support work.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, it is somewhat ironic that this member is talking about employment, unemployment and benefits today. As we found out over the weekend, he paid to have a petition from Queen's University put forward that asks to get rid of the Teck Frontier project. If we took more people off of employment insurance, there would be more room for people who need it, like people who are injured or have cancer.

Carbon Pricing  Madam Speaker, we now know why the agriculture minister wants to stand shoulder to shoulder with our farmers. It is so that she can reach even further into their pockets and take more for a carbon tax. Saskatchewan farmers can expect to lose over 12% of their income to the carbon tax once it hits $50 per tonne.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, as a new member, I am not going to comment on what the process should be going forward. All I know right now is that we have seen a trade deal that did not have its due diligence before bring it to the House. It should have been here sooner. Hopefully, moving forward, we can work together and have some of those conversations a lot earlier than the eleventh hour.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I know there have been concessions made in the dairy sector, because we spoke with those groups yesterday. They brought up the infant formula and a few of those other issues and their lack of ability to gain more access to the global market. I appreciate that we will have more of these discussions at committee.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, I look forward to working together. I believe that is why Canadians sent us to the House. We have common interests. I think it is a combination of both. Perhaps the members opposite do not understand how the correlation works between the Chinese exporting more aluminum and Mexico producing more aluminum, despite there being no plant.

Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Madam Speaker, it is with pleasure I join the debate this afternoon on the new NAFTA, or NAFTA .7 as I like to call it. There are a lot of things that we can agree on in this new NAFTA legislation but there are still a lot of questions to be answered. Our job here is to review legislation, to review new agreements as they come forward.
