Ethics  Mr. Speaker, the parties have settled the action. I have no further comments.

National Battlefields Commission  Mr. Speaker, once again, given that it was the Bloc Québécois who wished to enter into a coalition with the sponsorship party, it should be explaining why it did that. Our government is doing a good job of public administration. With regard to this event, it is a historical and not a political event.

National Battlefields Commission  Mr. Speaker, I find it very ironic that he is now attacking the sponsorship party because, a month ago, the Bloc Québécois wanted to form a coalition with this very party. With regard to this Quebec City event, it is a historical and not a political event. The honourable member does not have to attend if he does not wish to do so.

Sri Lanka  Mr. Speaker, I rise today to call on the government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE to declare and honour an immediate ceasefire of hostilities. They must allow a full, safe and unhindered access for the evacuation of the sick and the wounded, and the delivery of much-needed humanitarian assistance to civilians.

Situation in Sri Lanka  Mr. Speaker, the member has mistaken me for the member for Ottawa—Vanier, who is a colleague who sits near him, and I do not know if he was disoriented when he did that. He also mistakenly claims that he heard me say that the Sinhalese population had not received its fair share.

Situation in Sri Lanka  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank the hon. member for her comments. When I was in Sri Lanka some years ago, I travelled to the south in Galle and then later to the north in Jaffna and I did notice a dramatic distinction in the distribution of aid. It was clear to me that Tamil regions were receiving less aid than were Sinhalese.

Situation in Sri Lanka  Mr. Speaker, I witnessed these tragedies with my own eyes and heard of them from my constituents, both Tamil and Sinhalese. I join with the government in condemning the conduct of the Sri Lankan government for its bombing of a hospital and firing into areas it had designated as safe.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, as I stated at the outset, it is our role here to stand for those people who, while they do not cry with the loudest voice and may not be here regularly to demand more of what others earn, are the backbone of this country. They work for Canada, and therefore we should work for them.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, the member mentioned that single mothers make up a large portion of her constituency. Those are the exact people of whom I was speaking in my address when I said that we should stand for those people who may not have the loudest voice in the halls of power, but who nonetheless do the great work of raising our next generation, working hard in the jobs of today and building for the future of tomorrow.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, the member is right to point out that the government has invested more in infrastructure than has any government in Canadian history. He is also right to identify that our priority is to see that money translates into roads, bridges, trains and tunnels, real results in the communities we represent.

The Budget  Excuse me, Mr. Speaker, I was distracted for a second. The minister's voice is often heard, and it will be heard right across this land with the clanging of hammers and the rustling of machines that will be building tomorrow's infrastructure. He will eliminate the regulation and the red tape that gets between us and the rubber meeting the road, and he will get the job done.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, it has been my guiding purpose in this House to stand for people who work hard, pay their taxes and play by the rules. I speak of those quiet souls who live in the suburbs, villages and countryside of my riding. While members across the way may mock such people, I speak of those quiet souls who live in my community, and around this place we do not hear enough from them.

The Conservative Government  Mr. Speaker, there was a public inquiry. We expect to receive the results of the inquiry in June, but that has nothing to do with our government.

The Conservative Government  Mr. Speaker, judging from the overwhelmingly negative reaction they have all received to the separatist coalition, they are now trying to change the channel. It is not surprising. We know from Mr. Parizeau's own words what he wants to achieve: “A weaker government in Ottawa is eminently satisfying.

The Prime Minister  Mr. Speaker, on this side of the House, we are still playing for the Canadians. I will list who the opposition members are playing for? They are playing for Jacques Parizeau, the former premier of Quebec. An Ottawa Citizen article states that former Premier Jacques Parizeau applauded, without reservation, the Bloc Québécois leader's recent impressive victory in forming a coalition in Ottawa.
