Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I agree with some of the things my hon. colleague said in his speech, including the spirit of co-operation that he mentioned. It is true that, at the beginning of the pandemic, the opposition parties and the government worked together and implemented measures like the wage subsidy.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, we agree with the motion's preamble. We do indeed need to do more to help businesses in distress. However, we do not agree with the motion's proposals for how to do that. My colleague talked about the wage subsidy. Certain businesses and not-for-profit organizations were not eligible for the subsidy even though they should have been.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, we agree with the preamble of the motion, which states that businesses are the first to be affected by the pandemic. I am thinking of the Val-Jalbert historical village, which is in my riding and cannot access the wage subsidy. That is completely unfair. We have been working with different departments, but they have been passing the buck for several months.

Canada Revenue Agency Act  Madam Speaker, it is a real honour for me to rise today to speak to Bill C-210. I believe that the subject we are discussing has the potential to meet the urgent needs of many Canadians, and I want to emphasize the word Canadians. It is true. Quebec can sleep well at night knowing that this bill will not really have any impact on it.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, earlier in the debate, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons used the five national principles of the Canada Health Act to build his case for opposing this motion. However, Quebec and the provinces respect the five principles of that act.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for his speech. He is always very passionate and very thoughtful when speaking to health, an issue that is very dear to him. My question is fairly simple. The Bloc's motion is very well crafted. I do not see anything in it that parliamentarians might want to oppose.

Status of the French Language in Montreal  Madam Chair, it is rare for a Liberal member to quote René Lévesque. I think that is interesting and fantastic. If Quebec were a country, I do not think that we would be talking about the decline of French in Montreal today, but that is not currently the case. From the beginning, we have been told that we are causing division with our bill, which calls for Bill 101 to apply to federally regulated businesses in Quebec.

Status of the French Language in Montreal  Mr. Speaker, I would like to congratulate my colleague for the birth of his grandson. Hear, hear! My hon. colleague made reference a few times to his being here since 2006. That is fantastic because, in 2009, the Bloc Québécois tabled exactly the same bill, and every Conservative, including my colleague for Lévis—Lotbinière, voted against it.

Status of the French Language in Montreal  Mr. Speaker, I listened carefully to my colleague's speech. I think he is sincere in his love of the French language. He mentioned his former leader, Thomas Mulcair, who, incidentally, called out the member this week over a position he recently took. Our esteemed colleague from Rosemont—La Petite-Patrie felt that the Bloc's proposal to make an adequate knowledge of French a condition for becoming a citizen in Quebec was divisive.

Digital Charter Implementation Act, 2020  Madam Speaker, I listened carefully to my hon. colleague's speech and I saw that the government did its homework by looking at what is being done elsewhere in the world and learning from the experience before legislating on this issue. It is a good idea to see what other countries are doing wrong so as not to make the same mistakes, but it is also a good idea to look at what other countries are doing right.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, I really liked my hon. colleague's speech. Could he refresh the memories of certain Liberals, and perhaps certain Conservatives, too, and explain why we never signed the Constitution and why not even the federalist Quebec premiers wanted to sign this patriation?

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I just listened to my hon. colleague's response. He said that we must listen to what first nations want. He is absolutely right. I fully support Bill C-8. However, I am wondering why the government is prioritizing this type of measure, which is definitely important but rather symbolic, instead of focusing on implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, for example.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, the Bloc Québécois supports this bill, because our party has also committed to being an ally to first nations. That said, there is something in the Canadian oath of citizenship that fascinates me. The genetic lottery is when someone gets to be head of state based on succession and bloodline.

Political Prisoners  Mr. Speaker, many different topics were discussed this weekend at the G20 summit hosted by Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately, one of the most important topics was overlooked: the release of political prisoners like Raif Badawi. The Bloc Québécois twice urged the government to take advantage of this opportune moment.

Foreign Affairs  Madam Speaker, Raif Badawi has been in prison in Saudi Arabia for eight years, but a window has finally opened for him and his family. Tomorrow, yes, tomorrow, Saudi Arabia will host the G20 summit. The Saudi monarchy has a history of showing clemency when it hosts major international events.
